🇿🇦🤝🇩🇪 SAPVIA is proud to have had our CEO, Dr. Rethabile Melamu, PhD, represent South Africa as part of the official Team SA delegation at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) 2025. Dr. Melamu played a central role in this international dialogue — taking part in the live opening media briefing and delivering the opening keynote address on Day 2 of the conference. Her keynote offered a powerful, personal, and data-driven reflection on Africa’s role in the global energy transition — touching on themes of energy access, climate resilience, unemployment, youth and women inclusion, and the need for context-specific, locally driven solutions. (She is happy to share the keynote further with those who would like to unpack its insights.) Throughout the mission, Dr. Melamu also participated in key bilateral engagements and site visits — including an eye-opening tour of Siemens Energy — gaining firsthand insight into innovative technologies accelerating the global shift toward cleaner energy. The South African delegation held meaningful discussions with major stakeholders including the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, BMZ, the German Energy Agency (dena), and global partners from Brazil, Mexico, and beyond. Industry engagements with 50Hertz Transmission GmbH / Elia Group, ENERTRAG, and others reinforced the importance of international cooperation in achieving a just and inclusive energy transition. This mission was coordinated by the SA-German Energy Partnership, led on the German side by Henrik Hartmann. 🇿🇦 A heartfelt thank you to our passionate and dedicated Team South Africa, led by Thabo Kekana of the Department of Energy and Electricity (DEE), and supported by Dr Zwanani Titus Mathe, CEO of SANEDI; Prof. Sampson Mamphweli, Rivoningo Mnisi, Eskom Group Executive; as well as Belvana Abeli, Rebecca Maserumule, Ph.D., Shanon Neumann, Shawn Modise, Alexander Mahler, Maren Schöttler, and of course, Dr. Rethabile Melamu.
