The second part of our Mandela Day campaign in partnership with U-turn Homeless Ministries and Rewoven is collecting preloved clothes as well as damaged ones. Preloved clothing will be donated to U-turn the clothes that are not in good condition will be donated to Rewoven, an innovative start-up passionate about sustainability to be recycled into blankets. Theses blankets will then be donated to people facing homelessness. We have separate boxes for kiddies clothes as well. The deadline for donating is 31 July 2024. You can drop off your clothes at The Mandela Rhodes Building,150 St. George's Mall, Cape Town.

Last year we entered into a partnership with Uturn Homeless Ministries due to our aligned values. U-turn focuses on helping individuals overcome homelessness in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Together, we are working to not only divert pre-loved clothing from landfill, but also to find a way to distribute Rewoven products, such as our recycled blankets manufactured locally from recycled yarn, to communities facing homelessness during the harsh winter season. We are thrilled to announce that our co-founder and CEO has been listed in the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list! We are proud to be represented in this archive and celebration of African excellence. Through Esethu Cenga (She / her)'s leadership we have diverted over 1,4 million kg's of textile waste from landfill in the city of Cape Town alone for recycling and created over 10 employment opportunities in just 3 years... and for us, this is just the beginning.

“Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu” is a proverb found in most indigenous languages in Africa. It is an expression of the essence of Ubuntu - that to be human is to affirm one’s humanity by recognising the humanity of others and wholeness of our environments. Last week, we donated a garden to U-turn which they will use to support the growth of their nursery and landscapping work at LivingRoots. U-turn does the incredible work of creating an effective and accessible life change pathway to people facing homelessness in South Africa. We did this to celebrate our latest milestone of diverting over 1 million kg’s of textile waste from landfill. In the words of our CEO, “as our business grows so should our communities - business should have a net positive impact on society and the environment.” We are proud of our impact thus far and even more grateful for its ability to extend beyond our business to each other and our environment. We look forward to celebrate many more millions of kg’s of waste diverted from landfill in the future and thus planting many more gardens in our community!
