About us
UVU Africa, formally The Cape Innovation & Technology Initiative (CiTi) is a Non-Profit Company with a mission to build a future-fit, inclusive society through technology and innovation. We do so by creating globally competitive tech and innovation sectors to enable sustainable economic growth and greater employment. CiTi was established in 1999 and operates at the intersection of business, government and society to positively shape the future of the economy and society through the use of innovation and technology. We see this model as the key driver of systemic regional change and progression. Our success in building thriving regional technology ecosystems has been recognised in a recent Endeavor Insight report, titled Evaluation & Network Analysis of the Cape Town – Stellenbosch Tech Sector. The report concluded that “Cape Town is arguably the most productive and impactful tech hub in sub- Saharan Africa.” UVU Africa achieves its mission through the following interventions: 1. Entrepreneurial development, support and incubation; 2. Digital job readiness and skills development - training young people to enter the digital economy; and 3. Open innovation clusters - picking industries of the future and supporting and stimulating their growth. 4. Providing an ecosystem and space for entrepreneurs to thrive UVU Africa continues to look at areas that will be transformative in 20 years and have an impact in five years. We are scaling our work throughout the continent to stimulate and build inclusive transformation within the digital economy.

It’s been a month and the creativity and innovation we witnessed at #CréationAfricaDay continues to inspire us! As we reflect on the success of the programme, event and the incredible journeys of the 12 cultural and creative entrepreneurs from South Africa, Lesotho, and Malawi, it’s clear that the future of the creative industries in Africa is full of potential. These talented individuals have shown that innovation in fashion, design, media, and other creative sectors can drive economic growth and social impact. The #CréationAfrica programme has not only elevated these entrepreneurs but also highlighted the significant role the cultural and creative industries (CCI) play in unlocking Africa’s potential. From job creation to global partnerships, the CCI is a key driver in shaping the continent’s future. We are proud to have been a key partner, alongside the Embassy of France, the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS), and Bpifrance in bringing this vision to life. Together, we supported these entrepreneurs through a transformative incubation process, and it’s been inspiring to see their ventures reach new heights and help position them for global success. 🎬 Watch the highlights from Création Africa Day and join us in celebrating the continued rise of Africa’s creative economy. If you’re as passionate about unlocking Africa’s creative potential as we are, let’s work together to drive this industry further. #UVUAccelerate #CulturalCreativeIndustries #AfricanInnovation #CreativeEconomy #Entrepreneurship

Joshin, alongside co-panelists Lameen Abdul-Malik, Moustafa H. Moharram, and Omosalewa Adeyemi, shared insights on how Africa can harness digital skills, innovation, and strategic partnerships to unlock its immense potential. This resonates deeply with UVU Africa’s mission to drive inclusive economic growth by building a digitally skilled workforce, developing resilient entrepreneurs, and accelerating technology businesses in high-growth sectors. #SuperBridgeSummit #UVUAfrica #UnlockingAfricasPotential #DigitalTransformation Photo's courtesy of Thomas PAYS.

CAPACITI, a division of the UVU Africa Group, has reached a significant milestone with the launch of its first digital satellite hub in Hazyview, Mpumalanga. This initiative is a crucial step in their mission to provide inclusive and accessible tech education to underutilised youth in South Africa. By delivering digital skills training tailored to local needs, CAPACITI is helping to close the gap in tech talent development across the country. Congratulations to the entire CAPACITI team! We’re proud to be part of this journey and to see the impact these satellite hubs will bring to communities. #UVUAfricaGroup #CAPACITI #DigitalSkills #YouthEmpowerment #TechForGood
We're proud to have launched CAPACITI’s new satellite hub in Hazyview, Mpumalanga, in partnership with the Good Work Foundation! With youth unemployment at over 45.5%, this collaboration aims to create local economic growth by connecting young people to digital career opportunities right in their communities. Fiona Tabraham, CAPACITI’s Chief Executive, explains: “Instead of pulling these young adults away from their families and support networks, we decided to bring opportunities to them.
