About us

The National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, through Pillar 5, seeks to utilise public and private sector procurement as a tool and a springboard to facilitate the participation of women in the economy; promote their independence, and minimise their vulnerability to abuse. Pillar 5 also seeks to mobilise the private sector to partner with government in enabling Women-Owned Enterprises (WOEs) to participate in procurement opportunities within industry supply chains. The Women's Economic Assembly for women is a national initiative that draws companies, departments, organisations and individuals to connect and inspire innovation, thought leadership and actions to transform value chain eco-systems and create clear pathways for women-owned businesses to participate. This initiative aims to build a long term framework where economic opportunities for women, nationally and across the continent are expanded and leveraged, and practical actions take to fast-track womens' participation in supply chain eco-systems within specific industries. #wecona #WomensEconomic Assembly

  • South Africa’s economic future cannot afford to exclude women-led businesses. In 6 days, #WECONA2025 will bring together presidential leadership, industry pioneers, and procurement specialists to ensure that policy commitments translate into business opportunities for women entrepreneurs. The challenge is not the lack of talent or capacity—it is the will to create access. That must change. #WomenEconomicAssembly #WECONA2025 #SupplyChainTransformation

  • On 21 March 1960, 69 individuals lost their lives in the Sharpeville Massacre, standing against oppressive pass laws. Today, as we commemorate Human Rights Day, we at WECONA reaffirm our commitment to advancing women’s economic rights. By promoting equal access to procurement, funding, and market opportunities, we strive to build an inclusive economy that honours the sacrifices of our past. Let’s work together to ensure that human rights encompass economic empowerment for all. #WomenEconomicAssembly #HumanRightsDay #WECONA #WomenEconomicEmpowerment #InclusiveEconomy

𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗧-𝗪𝗘𝗕𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗙𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 – 𝗪𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗡 𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗬 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗔𝗖𝗧 𝗡𝗢𝗪! The urgency is clear: Women in Property must transition from conversation to execution. Yesterday’s Women Economic Assembly Property Sector Webinar was not just an insightful engagement—it was a strategic intervention. As we reflected on SONA 2025, the postponed Budget Speech, and South Africa’s G20 Presidency, the message was clear: Opportunities won’t be handed to us—we must claim our space in the economy. Key Insights from the Discussion: Budget Speech Postponement – A Delayed Decision, Not a Delayed Strategy The postponement to March 12 raises concerns about fiscal credibility, investor confidence, and delayed implementation. Not all is lost, opportunities have been presented. ➡️ Women in property must actively engage in budget discussions to influence resource allocation. 📌 Billions Allocated for Economic Growth – But Will Women Benefit? 💰 R20B annually via the Transformation Fund 🏗️ R940B in infrastructure investment (3 years) 📝 40% of contracts for women, youth & people with disabilities ➡️ Women must be prepared to access these opportunities and drive economic transformation. 📌 CBD Revitalization & Housing – Women Must Lead in Urban Development With a 2.4M housing backlog, urban renewal is a game-changer for economic inclusion. ➡️ Women must not only participate but drive development projects through strategic policy engagement and investment readiness. 📌 South Africa’s G20 Presidency – A Global Opportunity for Women in Property 🌍 Engage in W20, Y20, & B20 forums 💡 Leverage global investment for infrastructure development ➡️ South African women in property must position themselves in global economic conversations to shape policies that impact them. 🇿🇦From Insights to Action: Next Steps ✔ Be decision-makers, not spectators – Women must actively engage in procurement, policy influence, and funding access. ✔ Strengthen industry collaboration – Work with government, private sector, and financial institutions to scale women’s participation in the property sector. ✔ Move beyond conversations to execution – Women must secure deals, bid for projects, and ensure representation at key decision-making tables. A Call to Women in Property: The future of women in property isn’t something we wait for—it’s something we must actively shape. The economic landscape is shifting, and those who are ready will lead the change. 💡 A special thank you to economist Thobile Maloka for her insights & to all stakeholders who contributed to this impactful dialogue. Q: How are you positioning yourself for the transformation ahead? 📢 #WECONAWomenInProperty #BudgetSpeech2025 #G20 #W20 #B20 #WomenInProperty #EconomicTransformation #LeadershipInProperty
