REDEMPTIVE BUSINESSES: ON EMPATHY & (SEEMINGLY) HARD BUSINESS DECISIONS Last month at the Brave Redemptive Fellowship, we had the honour of having Keri-Leigh Paschal of Ziwani speak to us. We asked questions about building redemptive businesses and everything in between. It was such a value-packed session! One of the questions that a colleague of mine asked Keri was, "How do we handle a non-performing staff member as the owner of a redemptive business?" Keri answered (paraphrased): "Sometimes, the best thing to do is to ultimately let them go. If, after putting in much effort to get them back on their feet, the effort proves abortive, let them go!" She explained how, in her experience, more often than not, this has proven to be the best option for them. They will usually find a company that better matches their unique skills and experiences, thereby making it a win-win for all parties. There are always seemingly technical questions that come up when we say we are building redemptively, but one thing that has sunk deep into my heart in the last couple of months is that building redemptively is not an excuse for mediocrity.
