Generations of healthy and empowered young people across Africa
About us
The Students and Youth Working on reproductive Health Action Team (SAYWHAT) is a student and youth social movement birthed in 2003 with the express ambition to contribute to the existence of healthy and empowered students and youth in institutions of higher learning in Zimbabwe who thoroughly enjoy their sexual and reproductive health rights. Since its inception, the SAYWHAT movement has pursued its mission through demand for student-friendly SRH information and education and gender-sensitive programming. The movement’s work has been primarily led and driven by student structures in tertiary institutions and young people trained and supported as community activists and cadres in communities. The SAYWHAT movement has evolved over the years and has expanded its scope of work beyond SRHR to embrace public health, education and child safeguarding programming. It has also spread its tentacles beyond the borders of Zimbabwe into the Southern African region, where it has established strong collaborations and networks under the Southern African Students and Youth Consortium (SARSYC). The movement aspires to become a sub-regional and pan-African movement with continental coverage by 2050. SAYWHAT was initially registered as a Trust in 2007 and then upgraded its registration into becoming a Private Voluntary Organisation in 2017 under the PVO Act of Zimbabwe [Chapter 17: 05] (34/2017).

Having being to many mining communities in the Midlands Province, one thing that has caught my attention is the critical issue of the living and working conditions of artisanal miners which potentially exposes them and their communities to TB. Mining communities, particularly artisanal miners are exposed to hazardous conditions such as ✳️Lack of safety equipment ✳️Poor working conditions ✳️Exposure to dust & chemicals ✳️Overcrowded living conditions ✳️Malnutrition and Poor Hygiene On top these challenges, these brave individuals who often operate in remote areas lack access to Health Services. In some cases they face stigma which have pushed them away from seeking help. Their health seeking behavior is also influenced by their fear of the law enforcement, as many of them operates illegally. Regardless of our different feelings towards artisanal miners and their operations, one thing is certain, we can't win the fight against TB without priorizing their access to health. Therefore, together, there's a need to advocate for better health resources, support systems, and policy changes that protects the health of all miners. #endTB #EndingStigma #MiningCommunities #globalhealth JF Kapnek Zimbabwe Jointed Hands Welfare Organisation (JHWO) Students and Youth Working on Reproductive Health Action Team (SAYWHAT)

Students and Youth Working on Reproductive Health Action Team (SAYWHAT) in partnership with Full of life Trust Dry and Happy Period supported the International Rural Women's Day commemorations in Mutoko-Chiutsi Village. The event aimed at celebrating the critical role that young girls and women play in agriculture, food security and sustainable development. However their full potential is restricted by challenges they face including gender inequality, discriminatory laws and social norms, child marriages and Gender Based Violence. This provided a platform to raise awareness about child marriages, Gender Based Violence, the consequences as well as ways to prevent these challenges and promoting women empowerment. Residents from the village also got capacitated with climate smart initiatives to ensure the promotion of sustainable livelihoods for women and girls. Young adolescent girls and women got capacitated with correct and accurate information about Sexual Reproductive Health and Menstrual health Managemant and Hygene. #internationalruralwomensday #genderequality #menstrualhealthmatters
