ZETA celebrates key advancements in the region's sustainable commodities trading! 🌱 Last week, the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) announced a major expansion of its Clean Energy Certificates (CECs) scheme. EWEC has introduced CECs for energy generated from its three new wind farms in Abu Dhabi. These certificates, each representing 1 MW/h, adhere to the International Renewable Energy Certificate Standard (@I-REC) and will be auctioned to companies and organizations committed to decarbonizing their operations. In Q4 2023, EWEC signed a power purchase agreement with clean energy leader Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) for wind-generated power, with a combined capacity of 99 megawatts. The success of these auctions, following those for nuclear and solar energy, underscores the UAE’s growing influence in the global clean energy market. ZETA (Zero Emissions Traders Alliance) was excited to see a major breakthrough in clean commodities trade this month. Hintco GmbH announced Fertiglobe as the successful bidder of the first H2Global Foundation auction for renewable ammonia. Fertiglobe, the UAE-based fertilizer producer, will produce large amounts of green or renewable ammonia for delivery to Port of Rotterdam beginning in 2027. The contract calls for the shipment of up to 397,000 tonnes of green ammonia by 2033 from Egypt at a contract price of EUR 1,000 per tonne, including transport costs. It's a major project made possible by H2Global Foundation, whose trading company subsidiary Hintco will buy and sell the new green commodities to establish new markets. Hintco is entering long-term contracts to establish clear price signals for certified green commodities, allowing buyers and sellers to reduce risk. “This auction result is a strong indication of the market potential of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives," said Timo Bollerhey, CEO, Hintco, and Co-creator H2Global. Hintco is a growing global business. Founded with funding from Germany, it is entering into partnerships with similar entities in The Netherlands, Canada, Japan and elsewhere. They're creating trade in the new green commodities, in new market platforms supported by ZETA. ZETA will continue to build the marketplace infrastructure to enable this trade to grow and flourish, including pricing benchmarks and tradeable certificates that guarantee the origin of carbon-free fuels. Jan Haizmann, CEO of ZETA (Zero Emissions Traders Alliance) was recently quoted in an article written by Alan Mammoser on 'How Hydrogen Will Trade in the Commodity Markets of the Future'. He shares more insights here: 👇 “Trading sustainable energy is an effective tool to reduce carbon. Markets are required to accelerate reaching the carbon targets, or risk failure. The #ETS carbon trading scheme has enabled the #EU to substantially reduce carbon exposure by more than 1/3 compared to 1990. Enabling markets from sustainable fuels to green #hydrogen, green electricity, and green products of any sort is needed; there is no alternative to avoid failure to reach targets. Whereas the market for these fuels at this point in time is embryonic in the #MENA region, we are working on proven market mechanics to build these new sustainable markets. I’m confident this region will become a major centre for the production and export of the new green fuels that the world needs looking forward, but only markets can accelerate reaching the #netzero goals. The gap between the #carbon target and reality is growing every day. I see all the pieces coming into place to begin building regional #GCC markets for these new sources of energy. Building markets for green certificates and giving "green quality" a price is key to incentivizing new sustainable investment and creating new sustainable industries in the GCC. I believe that green products will advance the industrialization of GCC countries, as green energy is low in cost. Low energy costs and skilled workers combined with good logistics are the recipe to attract new industries, bringing sustainable industrial production to the GCC region for export.    #ZETA offers guidance to conceptually build the high-liquidity markets of the major energy commodities, as well as the now well-established instruments of #sustainable commodities trade, including #carbon credits and renewable energy certificates in the power sector."
