Ensuring that people affected by crisis have a say in humanitarian action.

Info

Ground Truth Solutions (GTS) is an international non-governmental organisation that helps people affected by crises influence the design and implementation of aid. Our goal is to make their perceptions the touchstone and driver of aid effectiveness. To achieve this, we champion the views of people affected by crises wherever decisions about aid are made. We believe that communities facing crisis should have more of a say in how aid is provided, and a greater influence on the global aid system. GTS works with crisis-affected communities to explore whether they see the assistance they receive as relevant, effective and fair, to what extent they trust aid actors, and whether they feel able to recover from crises. We also work with them to identify how things could be done better and engage in joint advocacy, supporting them to hold aid providers to account.

  • Climate disasters are escalating. Funding is shrinking. Aid is stretched thin. So how do we stay ahead of crises instead of constantly playing catch-up? Our research from Chad, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan reveals four practical shifts that can make humanitarian aid both climate-smart and cost-effective – even in a funding crunch. Join us at #HNPW for a fast-paced, solutions-focused discussion with: 🔹  Michael Lillis – Humanitarian Specialist, GiveDirectly 🔹 Sunayana Sen – Climate Resilience Expert, DARAJA Programme 🔹  Adessou Kossivi – Regional lead, Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR) 🔹  Sophie Tholstrup – Director of Policy and Climate, Ground Truth Solutions See you there! 📅 27 March | ⏰ 09:00 - 10:30 CET

How to keep climate front and centre as humanitarian action is cut to the bone? Communities we work with have some clear suggestions. The climate emergency is hitting vulnerable communities hard. It changes who needs assistance and where, and the type of assistance that’s needed. As climate crises metastasise a shrinking pot of humanitarian aid is stretched thinner and thinner, forced to fill the gaps left by governments, development and climate actors in fragile contexts. Tentative progress has been made in making humanitarian response more “climate smart”. Massive aid cuts and a donor focus on prioritising back to basics puts this in jeopardy. But if we don’t invest in crisis prevention and building resilience now we’ll face spiraling crises. Our research with communities in Chad, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Afghanistan suggests four key changes we need to make which have a double benefit - making humanitarian assistance fit for the climate crisis AND making more efficient and effective use of scarce resources. Our speakers will set out a plan for keeping climate at the centre of humanitarian action even as funding is reduced to a trickle. Join Adessou Kossivi (GNDR), Sunayana Sen (Resurgence ), Michael Lillis (GiveDirectly) and me (Ground Truth Solutions) to hear more.

It’s a setback for Ukraine’s recovery, resilience, and stability.   With the support of Open Space Works Ukraine, we spoke with those on the ground to understand the human cost of these cuts. • Humanitarian aid should be based on need – but it’s not always that simple.   While some crises get overfunded, and others barely see their appeals met, what’s behind the funding decisions?  In this week’s edition of #FinanceFridays, we dig deeper into what REALLY drives aid distributions? Size and cost matter, but historical and political ties play a much bigger role.   📊 Explore the data: https://lnkd.in/eyimnGMj

  • After 16 months under relentless attack, a fragile ceasefire allowed Gaza to breathe, and start to rebuild. Now aid cuts have erased this tentative progress   In part 6 of our series, we turn to 📍 Palestine. With the support of our partner Arab World for Research & Development - AWRAD, we were able to hear from people on the ground about the impact of the US aid cuts cost of the U.S. aid cuts. Gaza’s support system was barely holding on, hospitals were in crisis, food aid was running dry and public services were stretched beyond their limits. With the ceasefire there was hope. Now  U.S. aid cuts feel like a further betrayal.   Swipe through to listen first hand what’s happening on the ground. ⬇️   🔗 For more information: https://lnkd.in/d6ySg9su * 𝘛𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭.
