Master Teacher (English) Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership

✨ A Transformative Day of Learning with AI! ✨ Yesterday was an inspiring day for the TEP24 secondary English teachers who attended the 3rd discipline day at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership, with a focus on curiosity and creative thinking. We had the privilege of welcoming Chris Bush from University High School, who introduced our teachers to a range of AI tools designed to revolutionize classroom learning. The excitement in the room was palpable as teachers explored how these tools can elevate student engagement and drive higher-order thinking. By the end of the day, teachers had developed truly innovative resources and lesson sequences, ready to shift their classrooms into spaces where AI supports deeper, more dynamic learning experiences. Watching their amazement as the possibilities of AI became real was truly incredible! My co-presenter Master Teacher Lee Wilson and I would like to thank all of our teachers for the engagement and commitment. None of this would have been possible without the dedicated team behind the scenes at the Academy—thank you for making such impactful professional learning days a reality! #AIinEducation #ProfessionalLearning #InnovativeTeaching #VictorianAcademy #CuriosityAndCreativity #FutureOfLearning #SecondaryEnglish #leewilson #chrisbush

  • TEP24 - Discipline Day 3 - Curiosity and Creative Thinking This week we kicked off Discipline Day 3 as part of the Teaching Excellence Program (TEP). Highly skilled teachers from across all three sectors (Government, Catholic and Independent) attended a series of workshops tied to the overarching theme of Curiosity and Creative Thinking. Our teachers experienced planned excursions to the ACMI, Melbourne Museum and National Gallery of Victoria and engaged in workshops from a range of subject matter experts to unpack how curiosity and creative thinking can manifest in myriad ways across different disciplines. The workshops ranged from tanglegramming, to using generative artificial intelligence in the classroom, to embedding First Nations perspectives meaningfully to foster deeper thinking. • What a packed house! The Academy Mildura was host to a 2 day professional learning workshop delivered by Positive Partnerships designed to benefit teachers working directly with students on the autism spectrum. 31 educators spent 2 days building their knowledge and understanding of autism, exploring opportunities to strengthen positive relationships between school and home, and how to create classroom and school environments that reflect the unique needs of autistic students. Workshop participants not only deepened their knowledge, but were able to do so in an environment that supported their learning, with one participant stating, ‘Academy Mildura is an absolute gem! The venue itself is stunning and perfect for any educational event.’

  • On National Health and Physical Education Day, we shine a light on Respectful Relationships, a core component of the newly released Victorian Curriculum 2.0, from Foundation to Year 12. Belinda Dalziel, Head of Experiential Teaching and Learning at Beaconhills College (Official) and Teaching Excellence Program Teacher, shared her insights around classroom conversations, student expectations and how the curriculum can support. Respectful Relationships in the Victorian curriculum supports teachers and school leaders to promote and model respect, positive attitudes, and behaviours within schools, and teaches students about consent. It is all about embedding a culture of respect and equality across the entire school community. Keep an eye out on our channels for regular updates and information surrounding Respectful Relationships, including upcoming resources to help teachers and leaders to assist schools to equip students with both skills and knowledge in this area for the future. #Respect #EveryoneIsEqual #Support #Education #MentalHealth Department of Education
