For decades, we have worked with Qantas to support Australians in times of need. Today, we're excited to announce a new chapter of support with a three-year partnership.     This partnership will enable our people to travel nationwide for humanitarian work, significantly reducing costs and enabling faster responses to communities in crisis. The funding will help us to continue our focus on delivering services well into the future by funding the recruitment and training of 750 new Australian Red Cross volunteers across the country.    We look forward to continuing our work together to support Australian communities.    Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gycr4Zeb

People on temporary visas can experience high degrees of vulnerability if they fall on hard times. That’s why Australian Red Cross delivers the Safety Net Program. This program is designed to help temporary visa holders, people seeking asylum and people with an uncertain visa status meet their basic needs, such as food, medicine, and shelter, during times of financial hardship. This week, Australian Red Cross received a generous grant of almost $440,000 to its Safety Net Program in WA, presented by Hon. Ayor Makur Chuot MLC on behalf of donor Lotterywest. Thank you to all those who support us to continue providing essential assistance to those in need. To learn more about the program visit, https://lnkd.in/gtBMSzmz

Last week, we celebrated our 110-year anniversary with events across the country. In Sydney, we kicked off the celebrations by bringing our people, partners, and government together at a breakfast generously sponsored by our partner, NRMA Insurance, with keynote speakers Minister Jihad Dib and Shadow Minister Gurmesh Singh. Later that week, members of the Red Cross Collective, a network made up of long-standing partner organisations who support our work, came together to celebrate, and share insights on our collective action to amplify humanitarian work across Australia. We would like to thank our partners for their invaluable support, for joining us in marking this milestone and for continuing to support our vital work in communities across the country. Today, Australian Red Cross marks 110 years. This milestone is dedicated to the people we have stood beside through crises, and everyone who continues to make our important work possible – today and tomorrow. Founded amidst the challenges of war and conflict, our organisation has become a vital part of the humanitarian landscape. Guided by the principles enshrined in the Geneva Conventions that serve as a beacon for peace and a steadfast reminder to prioritise humanity above all else. The world has changed a lot in 110 years and with it, we’ve changed too. But what we stand for, will always remain the same. Together, with our network of more than 15,000 volunteers and members, we will continue to be there in times of disaster, to promote respect for the laws of war, to treat every human with dignity, and remain a constant for people in need across Australia and through our global movement. #110years #EveryoneAlways

Today, the Geneva Conventions turn 75. The cornerstone of international humanitarian law (IHL), the Conventions set out the world's agreement that wars have limits and that respect for human dignity must always guide actions in armed conflict. Modern-day warfare can be hard to comprehend but this interactive video lets you navigate through the dilemmas faced by ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. Prepare to witness the complexities of conflict up close, explore the rules of war and emerge with a renewed commitment to creating a world where IHL is upheld, always: https://brnw.ch/21wLN9J

Every child deserves to live free from exploitation, abuse or neglect - yet worldwide, one in three victims of human trafficking is a child. This includes the children of parents who experience human trafficking, who can be impacted by their caregivers’ experiences. Often, these children are not recognised as victim-survivors or given access to appropriate support. Let’s raise awareness of all children affected by human trafficking. Learn more in the University of South Australia report, supported by Australian Red Cross, here, https://brnw.ch/21wLz1q If you or someone you know needs help, contact Australian Red Cross confidentially on 1800 113 015.

Australian Red Cross' Support for Trafficked People Program supports people who have experienced serious exploitations such as human trafficking, forced labour or forced marriage. Reports of modern slavery received by the Australian Federal Police reached a record high of 340 in FY22/23. From today, victim-survivors will have an alternative route to access support via the Additional Referral Pathway to our Support for Trafficked People Program. If you suspect that you or another person is experiencing, or is at risk of, modern slavery or human trafficking, help is available. To access the Additional Referral Pathway, visit https://utm.guru/arp. For more information, visit https://lnkd.in/gyxQFpRg

After experiencing her own hardship in the past, Jamee, who is part of our Connected Women program, helps migrant women arriving in Australia to make connections, learn new skills and thrive in their new home. As Jamee puts it, “Giving back to people doesn’t just help me – I build friendships and feel less alone”.     Volunteering is often a two-way street, especially at Australian Red Cross. Australian Red Cross regularly hits the road to visit communities and talk about preparing for severe weather, emergencies, and disasters. A big thank you to everyone who joined us last month at the City of Gold Coast's Emergency Services Safari 'Road to Recovery' events in Coomera and Coolangatta. Our team, along with Trauma Ted, engaged with community members of all ages, sharing valuable resources on emergency preparedness.
