About us
We are a registered community housing provider and charity with a long history of delivering community housing in Sydney. We first began as SWISH, the South-West Inner Sydney Housing Cooperative, in 1984. Since then, we have joined with local community housing providers, officially becoming Bridge Housing in 2009. Today, we manage 3,600 properties across metropolitan Sydney, home to 5,300 people. Our purpose is to change lives through more homes and quality services. Working at the coalface of Sydney’s housing crisis, we know that a safe, secure, affordable home is the stable base that people need to do well. We take a long term view to running our business so that we can continue changing lives for generations to come and this means carefully considering the environmental and social impacts of our decisions.

Homelessness is a daily reality for more than 247,000 Australians, noted Bridge Housing's COO Simone Parsons. "Every day, 46 people or family groups are turned away by overstretched specialist homelessness services, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare*. With soaring rents and cost of living pressures, these numbers will continue to climb without impactful intervention." One solution is to permanently fund the highly successful Together Home program. It provides homes and tailored support for people experiencing homelessness. Independent evaluation shows that 86% of participants sustained their tenancies, with real-world outcomes such as a 35% decrease in hospital admissions. #housingfirst #endinghomelessness *published by AIHW, December 2023
