I got to hang out with some awesome Canberra and international business people yesterday at the New Zealand Trade Opportunities Forum, where I was on the invited panel. I was in great company with (L-R) Greg Harford (CEO, Canberra Business Chamber), His Excellency Mr Andrew Needs (High Commissioner to Australia, New Zealand High Commission) and Sarah Whatley (International Sales Specialist, Australia Post). There was a positive vibe in the room and a genuine interest in finding out how simple it is to do business in NZ. His Excellency shared that the economy in NZ is picking up and that tourism is at 85% of pre-COVID levels which is great news. #newzealand #australia #business #canberrabusiness #export #medicalgradeskincare #cosmeceuticals

The election campaign in the ACT is gearing up and I spent some quality time tonight with some of the Kurrajong candidates - Shane Rattenbury MLA, Elizabeth Lee MLA, Thomas Emerson, Martin Greenwood and Peter Strong AM - for an informal chat about a number of issues, including red tape, crime, mental health, liquor licensing and lots more. Great to see Chris Gatfield, Dr David Marshall AM, Kate Palmer, Peter Barclay, Dorothy Barclay and Ben Johnston.

Early this morning we had a Breakfast Workshop at the Pavilion on Northbourne aimed at equipping employers with tips on how to create a diverse and inclusive workforce. We had very insightful and informative presentations starting with Raffy Sgroi who has successfully implemented a diverse environment in her business, Executive Director at Imagine More Jan Kruger who is an expert in inclusivity/diversity matters and Keryl Neville CEO of LEAD, an organisation that focuses on disability employment provision. As usual this morning wouldn't have been as exciting without our members who decided to join in as well as Cam Sullings for facilitating the session. Looking forward to seeing you in the next one! #CanberraBusinessEvents #EmployerWorkshop #InclusivityDiversity

Really interesting export roundtable today at the Canberra Business Chamber focused on our neighbours in New Zealand. We heard from NZ High Commissioner HE Andrew Needs, Elissa O'Keefe founder of Science Skincare and Sarah Whatley from Australia Post. It was good to hear from the High Commissioner about the Māori economy; efforts to keep the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement evolving and current; and the infrastructure pipeline in New Zealand. There was lots of good practical advice about accessing opportunities to export to New Zealand. Many firms start their exporting opportunities by looking across the ditch to NZ, given the similar markets and (mostly) common language. Key feedback was that it’s relatively straightforward to access NZ markets from a practical and regulatory point of view; and it’s a great place to expand as an initial export step. Thanks Archie Tsirimokos and MV Law for hosting us, and Brendan Smyth and his team from ACT Government for their support.

Yesterday the CBC team alongside some board members attended “Assembly 101” a free seminar hosted by ACT Legislative Assembly. The seminar included speakers on the ACT electoral system, a Q&A session with MLAs, a guided tour, a mock election & morning tea! Would encourage anyone who hasn’t been to the seminar to catch the next one for a better understanding on civic issues 👍 #CanberraBusinessChamber #LegislativeAssembly

Great conversation with ACT Senator David Pocock at tonight’s Canberra Business Chamber’s Business Leaders’ Roundtable. Our members got to hear first-hand from the Senator on a range of issues, and talk about issues including productivity, health and safety, compliance issues, and infrastructure across the ACT. Terrific presentation from Canberra Liberals' Leader, Elizabeth Lee MLA, at the Canberra Business Chamber Pre-Election Forum last week. The Canberra Liberals will start with a "yes to business".
