Ovarian cancer is one of the most devastating cancers. Of the more than 620 women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in NSW each year, less than half will reach five-years survival. Dr Nicki Meagher, PhD is striving to help change this. Proudly supported by a Cancer Institute NSW fellowship, Dr Meagher is investigating the link between aspirin and improved ovarian cancer outcomes. Harnessing international datasets, her research aims to inform the development of future clinical trials. Dr Meagher was one of 14 researchers recently awarded a Career Support Grant by the Cancer Institute NSW. ➡️Learn more about Dr Meagher’s work and how she’s making a difference for women with ovarian cancer: https://lnkd.in/g6VaE24G ➡️Meet our latest round of grant recipients: https://lnkd.in/gTF7iiby

A new program is making a life-changing difference for people with breast cancer across NSW. People who undergo surgery for breast cancer and have their lymph nodes removed are at higher risk of developing lymphoedema, a chronic and debilitating swelling condition. But the good news is that its progression can be prevented when found and treated early. The Lymphoedema Prevention and Early Intervention Program is aiming to reduce the rates of lymphoedema to below 10 per cent for this cohort across NSW. It provides regular monitoring, education and treatment from a person’s diagnosis to up to two years after surgery. Per year, it is expected to support 1,800 people who are undergoing breast surgery for breast cancer and prevent 400 cases of chronic lymphoedema. ➡️ Find out more: https://brnw.ch/21wRhYN
