Nature Positive reforms, production tax incentives and WA’s green metal potential were all high on the agenda during a series of meetings attended by CME Director of Policy and Advocacy Adrienne LaBombard and Head of Economics Aaron Walker in Canberra this week. Adi and Aaron met with a wide range of lawmakers and department staff to press home the recommendations contained in our recently launched Federal Pre-Budget Submission. The overarching message: the resources sector needs a back-to-basics approach that prioritises lowering costs and accelerating project assessments, complemented by targeted support for emerging industries critical to the global energy transition.

What a pleasure hosting the 2025 CME Women in Resources Awards finalists for a celebratory breakfast today ahead of next week's big event. Each of the 13 individual finalists - and the three businesses in the running for the Outstanding Company Initiative Award - have made a valuable contribution to improving diversity and inclusion in the resources sector. Thanks also to Finance, Commerce and Women's Interests Sue Ellery for attending this morning to meet our finalists and help present the finalists' certificates. The countdown is now well and truly underway for the sold-out 2025 Awards Dinner on February 13 at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Before then, it's not too late to cast your vote for the WIRA People's Choice Awards here: https://hubs.ly/Q035x7JG0

Some very important points in this coverage of The West Australian's business roundtable featuring Woodside Energy, Chevron, Alcoa and Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA. ➡️Gas remains critical to WA's electricity generation needs, supplying 56% of the power in the SWIS when a new demand record was set on January 20. ➡️ Globally, coal is still eight times more likely to be used to produce electricity than gas - despite gas producing roughly half the CO2 emissions. ➡️ WA’s gas industry has provided $40 billion worth of taxes and royalties to the Federal Government and $18b to the State Government over the past 40 years.
