Boardroom Briefing 💡 CME's Director General Boardroom series continued today, with Director General Anthony Kannis and his colleagues Matt Darcey and Vaughan Davies, joining CME members to discuss all things planning, lands and heritage. Matters of duplication and coordination were hot topics, and attendees heard more on Government's rapid EOI process for lazy land.
CME is pleased to have CEO Rebecca Tomkinson appointed to the Australian Government's Green Metals Advisory Panel. This panel will play an important role informing the policy settings needed to propel Australia’s green metals opportunity. Western Australia’s resources sector underpins the State and National economy and is well positioned to contribute to this conversation, as outlined in CME’s detailed submission to the consultation. Regulatory changes to improve efficiency 📃 CME was pleased to have Chris Clark and Danielle Uniza from the Department of the Premier and Cabinet of WA join CME members to discuss the Environmental Protection Act Amendment Bill 2024. Introduced to parliament last week, the amendments are focused on reducing the delays experienced with major project environmental assessments - with no change to environmental assessment thresholds or protections.
Women in Resources Awards - Pilbara Sundowner 🌅 Karratha was buzzing last night for CME's annual Women in Resources Awards Pilbara Sundowner. The 50 strong crowd gathered to meet, mingle and hear from 2024's Outstanding Woman in Resources, Josie Fourie, and 2024 Outstanding Young Woman finalist, Jemma Ehsman. Western Trade Coast Infrastructure Strategy 🚢 The WA State Government today released the Western Trade Coast Infrastructure Strategy. The strategy encourages a masterplan and includes comprehensive feasibility studies to assess the viability of the projects considering factors such as interconnectedness, environmental impact and cost as one of the 12 next steps. The CME welcomes this action, having called for it in our submission to the Mandogalup - Improvement Scheme No. 1.
