  • Oncology parents are not OK. This is why our President Jonathan Hubbard and a Crawford contingent are getting behind this year's CEO Dare to Cure. It's the Children's Cancer Institute's annual fundraiser. The CCI is on a mission to find a cure for childhood cancer and we are helping raise the funds to do it! So, if you are looking for a way to do something meaningful on this R U OK? Day, here is the link to make a donation: https://lnkd.in/gz7tHR-i #daretocure #RUOK #socialimpact #ESG #CrawfordCares #CrawfordAustralia

Today is "R U OK?" Day which also happens to fall right in the middle of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Unfortunately, the reality is - parents of cancer kids *are not OK*. Even if they tell you they are. The trauma they are going through is extreme and the only choice they've got is to keep on going. They can't fall into a heap. They *have* to keep getting up, putting on a brave face, and doing everything they can to help their child survive. When you have a friend with a child who's fighting cancer, it's not always easy to know what to say or how to help. We asked Faye Hollands - our incredible Family Relationship Lead at Children's Cancer Institute and Oncology Mum from Shine Like Charli for her suggestions. Faye says: 📌 Assume they are *not* OK 📌 Where possible, offer solutions and practical help instead of asking 'what can I do to help?' because that question alone opens up another tab in their brain - and they already have enough to think about 📌 Remember that you don't need to have solutions or even know what to say to them, just a little message saying hello, or "cancer sucks and I just want you to know I'm thinking of you" will go a long way. 📌 If they go quiet, find out why. When things get really tough, they may want to retreat and not "burden" everyone around them with just how bad things really are. So watch for those little signs and check-in 📌 Be mindful that even when the worst treatment is over, they will probably still have a LOT going on behind the scenes that no-one really knows about which can leave them feeling very lonely and isolated. So ask what's happening and really listen - just being able to offload for a few minutes can feel like the best therapy! On this "R U OK?" Day, we're sending out a big virtual hug to all our oncology families and anyone else who is doing it tough. Lean into those support networks around you and don't be afraid to reach out and ask for help when you need it. #RUOKDay #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth #ALifeShouldBeLong #CuringChildhoodCancer #ItsNotIfItsWhen

When we lunch with clients, we make it count! Recently, we chose to share a meal at a fundraiser event to support the life-changing work of Kids First Australia. This annual fundraising event is hosted by Melbourne radio station 3AW and is known as "The Lunch that Changes Lives". All money raised supports and strengthens the futures of vulnerable children, young people and families. Crawford's purpose across our day-to-day work, as we handle both large claims and small, is to restore lives, businesses and communities. But there’s no reason our business development activities shouldn’t also have social impact where possible. #ESG #CrawfordAustralia #socialimpact #CrawfordCares

  • Seasoned claims professional Milia Xystros is our new Head of Crawford TPA, brining with her more than 25 years' experience across the insurance industry. Crawford TPA (formerly Broadspire) has been in operation in Australia for over a decade, supporting insurers, corporates and brokers with full end-to-end claims management solutions. “There is a misconception in the market that Crawford TPA is simply an extension of our loss adjusting business for which, admittedly, we are most well-known for within Australia. In reality, Crawford TPA is an entirely different model – it’s a different team, who have different skill sets to loss adjusters. Our TPA is run as a totally separate business," explained President Jonathan Hubbard. Holding a law degree, Milia's career has included a decade in private practice law firms focusing on public liability, CTP, self insureds and property claims, followed by 11 years with IAG, and most recently managing Lloyds Syndicate and local underwritten, casualty, financial lines and property claims with a competitor claims management organisation. Read more in Insurance News 👇 and welcome Milia! #CrawfordTPA #claimsmanagement #claimssolutions

  • A life should be long. But cancer kills three children every week in Australia. That's why, for the third consecutive year, a Crawford contingent is taking part in the CEO Dare to Cure to raise funds for the Children's Cancer Institute. Today, all donations are being matched dollar for dollar. Our Crawford team's fundraising page is here: https://lnkd.in/gqFzWDZG Every dollar counts. #daretocure #socialimpact #ESG #CrawfordCares Jonathan Hubbard | Angela Fitzpatrick | Chris Ehlers, CA | Andy Hill | Curtis Oakes | Laura Shann

Chubby cheeks, big blue eyes and a beautiful smile − that’s how Lola’s mum Naomi remembers her little girl. Lola had been sick on and off for a while, but then Naomi noticed that Lola wasn't using her left hand much and her smile had become slightly crooked. Lola was taken for a CT scan. Watching the radiographer look at the images, Naomi had a feeling that something was seriously wrong. “The doctors walked in with a grim look on their faces,” recalls Lola's dad Aaron. “The neurosurgeon told us ‘There’s a tumour in there. It’s big and it’s deep. Those words will never escape us.’” Lola had emergency surgery to remove the tumour. Results confirmed she had a rare brain cancer known as ETMR – an aggressive cancer with a high chance of regrowth. She would need high-dose chemo. It was going to be nasty, but without it, there was zero chance of survival. Lola went through six rounds of chemo, plus a second operation to remove residual cancer in her brain. She also endured a general anaesthetic and radiotherapy - five days a week for five solid weeks. On Christmas Eve, Lola had her final treatment and left hospital. The family spent special together time over Christmas, and Lola was the best she’d been in a long time. Lola had a follow-up MRI on 2nd Feb, and the oncologist said he didn’t like what he was seeing. “That was really gut-wrenching,” says Aaron. “That’s when we knew in our heart of hearts that was it.” Lola’s condition deteriorated quickly, and tragically, on 26 March, she passed away peacefully at home. Since then, Naomi and Aaron have been doing everything they can to keep their precious daughter's memory alive. Each year, they gather a huge team of runners to be a part of "Lola's Joy Squad" in the City to Surf, and have been inspired by the progress being made in childhood cancer research at Children's Cancer Institute. “We want to cure cancer.” Naomi says. “We can’t save Lola, but we just want to be able to help in some way, in her memory.” If you believe that lives like Lola’s should be long and full of possibilities, please donate and help us cure every child of cancer. https://lnkd.in/g4-Hpz8h #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth #ALifeShouldBeLong #CuringChildhoodCancer #ItsNotIfItsWhen

On dollar match day, a $50 donation becomes $100. If you can donate, today is the day to do it! Follow this link to donate: https://lnkd.in/gqFzWDZG (Picture for attention - this was Jonathan at last year's event nearly being strangled by snakes!) • Hundreds of claims are starting to flow in, following wild weather in Tasmania over the past several days. We have additional Crawford people resources from other states on standby, ready to fly in to support our local team if needed.   This morning, emergency services is warning that the flood risk to the Derwent Valley is an ongoing threat. #RESTORE #CrawfordAustralia #insuranceclaims

  • We believe managing regional claims at a distance from a capital city desk does not produce the best and most empathetic claims experience. At Crawford, our model is on-ground support with regionally based adjusters making the first contact and doing the initial site inspection, to kick start the #RESTORE journey. Did you know we have nearly 40 offices around the country? #CrawfordAustralia #claimsmanagement #insuranceclaims Scott Shepherd | Jonathan Hubbard
