  • Over the weekend we had the opportunity to attend another Yabun Festival, one of Australia’s largest cultural events on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander calendar. For the first time this year, the one-day festival enabled us to share our stall with colleagues from Sound NSW. We connected with community members and yarned up about funding opportunities for our First Nations artists and organisations, as well as all our funding and engagement programs. Yabun is not just a festival—it’s a cultural safe-space for learning and celebrating resilience and diverse creativity of our First Nations artists and communities. From various genres of music and artistic styles, to listening and hearing stories of culture and connection, we are proud to continue being part of this special event.  #CreateNSW #Yabun2025 #YabunFestival #FirstNationsArtists

  • Last week the public artwork Ngabu was unveiled at Walsh Bay Arts Precinct 🐚 Created by Aunty Lola Ryan who comes from a lineage of esteemed Dharawal shell artists from La Perouse, Ngabu (Dharawal language for Nan / Grandmother) pays homage to the series of shell harbour bridges created by her mother Lola Delia Ryan.  The vibrant installation, featuring intricate shell patterns, celebrates the artist’s deep connection to Country and storytelling through cultural practices. The launch event was a moving tribute to First Nations heritage, starting with a powerful performance by the Gamay Dancers, followed by a Welcome to Country from Uncle Lloyd Walker. Attendees also heard from exhibition curator Dr. Michael Cohen from City People, with Aunty Lola herself sharing heartfelt reflections on the meaning of Ngabu to her and her family.    To conclude the event, attendees had the opportunity to walk across Aunty Lola’s bridge, marvelling at her intricate shell designs while taking in the iconic view of Sydney Harbour Bridge.  Created as part of Sydney Festival, you can check out the interactive artwork at Walsh Bay Arts Precinct until 27 April 2025.  Learn more about Ngabu: https://lnkd.in/gCjqeFhS #CreateNSWSupported #WalshBayArtsPrecinct #PublicArt #Ngabu #ShellArt #FirstNationsArt #FirstNationsStories #ArtsAndCulture

The new work - N-S-E-W by Warren Langley, 2024 has recently been unveiled at Homebush Station (Loftus Crescent), which was commissioned by Strathfield Council as part of the council's Station Street Domain Improvement project. N-S-E-W is a destination artwork which acknowledges the station’s role as a point of coming and going and its multidirectional arrivals and departures, which is reflected in the mirrored surfaces of the sculpture. During the night, the two-way mirror effect allows the sculpture to appear as a glowing structure. The graphic design for this was developed in consultation with Kamilaroi / Gamilaraay artist Dennis Golding and is based upon the oxide patterns of Sydney sandstones. N-S-E-W is one of several public artworks that Create NSW has supported, through our work with NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and six local councils to implement public art as a key component of the Parramatta Road Urban Amenity Improvement Program (PRUAIP) #CreateNSW #PublicArt #ArtsAndCulture __ Images courtesy of Strathfield Council.

  • From Albury to Armidale, Leeton to Lismore, regional NSW is set to enjoy some of the state’s best art, culture and entertaining performances thanks to the 2024/25 Regional Arts Touring fund. In the line-up there’s something for everyone, with smash hit shows, dance, cabaret, poetry slams, comedy, children’s theatre shows, classical music and powerful visual art exhibitions – making entertaining and thoughtful arts and cultural experiences accessible for audiences in 49 regional communities. The expanded timeframe from the transformed Arts and Cultural Funding Program (ACFP) has enabled tours such as 'Guwayu: for all time' – a powerful First Nations exhibition, curated by Mudgee-based Wiradjuri woman, Aleshia Lonsdale. The exhibition, which premiered at Mudgee Arts Precinct in May 2024, illuminates and honours the past we have inherited and looks to the future we will leave behind. Collectively, the 17 tours will showcase the state’s diverse talent to over 100,000 people, boosting vibrancy across the state, while generating employment for 700 artists, creatives and cultural workers. • Communities and audiences across the state will enjoy the exceptional calibre of homegrown creative talent with 51 NSW organisations funded to deliver diverse arts and cultural programming in the coming year thanks to the Annual Organisation Funding round, delivered as part of Create NSW’s Arts and Cultural Funding Program (ACFP). Among the diverse recipients was Western Sydney-based We Are Studios Arts and Disability Inc. who received funding to deliver a program of accessible professional skills development workshops in Blacktown for emerging artists with disability. Others include a First Nations program in the Riverina for youth to express themselves through dance and cultural connection; a multi-sensory art and music festival takeover of White Bay Power Station showcasing ambitious new works by NSW artists; and an annual artistic program including a Mardi Gras exhibition that provides emerging curator career-development opportunities. This transitional round of annual organisational funding bridges the gap as the program transitions to the new, simpler, fairer, faster Arts and Cultural Funding Program with longer-term Multi-year funding programs.
