As NAIDOC Week draws to a close, we reflect on the vibrant culture and contributions of First Nations people. Here are some of the ways we learned and celebrated their rich heritage: - An exciting dance performance by the Torres Strait Islander group Kebi Kub. - A dynamic panel session with our Secretary Meghan Quinn and leaders from Indigenous Affairs portfolio bodies. They talked about how economic opportunities can empower and build strong, self-determining First Nations communities. - A Yarning Hour with Aunty Violet Sheridan. We learned about her history, dreamtime stories and Ngunnawal totem stories over a cup of native bush tea. - Canberra Bush Tucker and cooking sessions. Our staff sampled Indigenous traditional foods, spices and plants. - A Walk on Country tour of Black Mountain. We explored bush foods, artefacts and panoramic views of Canberra, guided by an Aboriginal interpreter. This week has reaffirmed our commitment to honouring and preserving Indigenous culture while fostering economic opportunities for First Nations people.
