  • What does a scientist, wildlife rescue advocate, scholar and data analyst all have in common? They’re all 2025 Queensland Australian of the Year Awards recipients! Our Engagement and Partnerships team recently delivered the 2025 awards ceremony in Brisbane in partnership with the National Australia Day Council. It was a fitting celebration for these extraordinary individuals and a perfect example of DPC leading collaborative communication and engagement to achieve effective outcomes for Queenslanders. Congratulations to the 2025 Queensland recipients – we’ll be cheering you on at the national ceremony in Canberra on the eve of Australia Day 2025. ⭐ 2025 Queensland Australian of the Year – Co-founder of Australian Spatial Analytics, Geoffrey Smith ⭐ 2025 Queensland Senior Australian of the Year – Social worker and scholar, Dr Bronwyn Herbert ⭐ 2025 Queensland Young Australian of the Year – Scientist, Dr Katrina Wruck ⭐ 2025 Queensland Local Hero – Founder of Wildlife Rescue Sunshine Coast, Claire Smith Discover more about the extraordinary Queensland #AusoftheYear recipients at https://lnkd.in/ecCnT4g. • The Intergovernmental Relations team, supported by the Law and Justice Policy team, proudly led Queensland Government’s engagement with the United Nations delegation last week. Senior executives met with Professor Tomoya Obokata, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Slavery, and representatives from the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to discuss critical actions to combat modern slavery and protect victims of forced labour, forced marriage, and other forms of exploitation. The Special Rapporteur’s mandate, established through the UN Human Rights Council, seeks to promote global standards, engage with stakeholders across all levels, and recommend strategies to prevent slavery worldwide. As part of their Australian visit, the UN delegation consulted with stakeholders across Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria and engaged with other state and local governments and civil society groups online. Queensland’s input will contribute to the Special Rapporteur’s Country Report on Australia, with a preliminary report due on 27 November 2024 and the final report set for release in 2025. Together, we are championing global efforts to end modern slavery. #HumanRights #QueenslandGovernment #GlobalCollaboration #ItsInYourHands

  • 🌟 What a day to remember! 🌟 Last Saturday, Queensland came together in style to celebrate our incredible Olympians and Paralympians returning from the Paris 2024 Games. The energy and pride was contagious as more than 40 of our sporting heroes took the time to meet with fans, sign autographs, and create lasting memories. Behind every great event is a phenomenal team. A massive shoutout to our Events and Engagement team, who worked closely with the Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia, and Brisbane City Council to make this celebration a reality. These moments remind us just how powerful collaboration can be and why it’s so great to work at the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. Congratulations again to all involved and a massive thanks to our athletes for inspiring us all! 🏅🎉 #Paris2024 #ProudDPC #Teamwork

  • Mount Isa Mines Indigenous Rodeo Championship Last week saw the culmination of a significant sponsorship activity for the department with the delivery of the Mount Isa Mines Indigenous Rodeo Championships. Now in its third year, the Championships is a standalone event held in conjunction with the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo and attracts not only Indigenous amateur and professional athletes and their families, but a wide range of rodeo enthusiastic searching for an authentic Indigenous experience. DPC led a cross-agency working group with input from DTIS, DTATSIPCA, TEQ, AQ and DESBT to ensure relevant leveraging opportunities and benefits are achieved for the Queensland Government’s investment. The event offered an action-packed schedule of rodeo, rock music and good old rodeo entertainment, culminating with the Rodeo Rocks Concert featuring DJ Deadly Jacob and headline artists Casey Chambers and Chrstine Anu. Thank you to the Sponsorship team in Events and Engagement for listening and leading to deliver this important initiative. Love your work! • The Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) wrapped up last weekend, with final visitor numbers for the Queensland Government precinct reaching nearly 58,000 over the nine days! This year’s precinct theme was ‘Doing what matters for Queensland’, focusing on the greatest priorities for Queenslanders from across the state. Our Events and Engagement team coordinated the participation of more than 19 departments and agencies, with the creative Strategic Communication Design team helping to bring the precinct to life! Thanks to all departments involved and our incredible DPC volunteers who worked onsite to keep the precinct running smoothly.
