If you happen to pass by 8 Station St in Wollongong, NSW, you'll notice the stunningly refurbished louvres on the building's exterior. This is all thanks to the diligent efforts of Modern Painting Group, who were responsible for repairing and repainting the existing louvre brackets. The team at Modern Painting Group approached the project with a thorough and systematic approach starting with cleaning the existing galvanised steel, ensuring that the surface was free of any dirt or debris that could interfere with the coating system. Once the steel was clean, any damaged areas were spot repaired using our zinc-rich Dulux® Zincanode® 202. This coating provides excellent corrosion protection for steel, and acts as a sacrificial layer, meaning that if the steel is damaged, the Zincanode 202 will corrode instead of the steel itself. This helps to extend the life of the steel and ensures that the coating system will provide long-lasting protection against the corrosive marine environment. The coating system used on the external existing galvanised steel consisted of four coats, including one coat of Dulux® Zincanode® 202, two coats of Dulux® Durebild® STE MIO Quickturn, and a topcoat of Dulux® Weathermax® HBR. These coatings were applied using a spray application and were chosen for their outstanding durability and protection against severe industrial and marine environments. "This coating system was chosen because it provides excellent protection against the high corrosivity of the marine environment. In fact, it meets the requirements of AS/NZS 2312.1:2014 Category C4, which is the highest level of protection required for this type of environment." explains Dulux® Protective Coatings Trade Specialist, Greg Scott. Exciting news for soccer fans in Towradgi, NSW. The Wollongong City Council is investing in the local sport fields, starting with a refurbishment of the Fernhill building. The refurbishment includes fixing structural cracking and external brickwork, installing a new roof, and a new metal awning complete with structural, drainage, and electrical lighting elements. But it's not just about looks. The refurbishment also includes fitting out the internal rooms, making the Fernhill Soccer Club more comfortable and convenient for players and spectators alike. During the Fernhill Soccer Club awning refurbishment, damaged galvanized steel was spot repaired with Dulux® Zincanode® 202. Greg Scott, a Dulux® Protective Coatings Trade Specialist, recommended a coating system to protect the metal awning from the harsh marine environment. The following products were selected for the project: ·      1st coat: Dulux® Zincanode® 202 @ 50-microns (µm) DFT ·      2nd coat: Dulux® Durebild® STE GF @ 200-microns (µm) DFT ·      3rd coat: Dulux® Durebild® STE GF @ 200-microns (µm) DFT ·      Topcoat: Dulux® Weathermax® HBR @ 75-microns (µm) DFT Greg explained that "The coating system being used is specifically designed to provide protection against corrosion in a marine environment. The standard used to determine the level of protection required is AS/NZS 2312.1:2014 Category C5-M, which stands for very high marine corrosivity. This means that the coating system must be able to withstand the harsh conditions of a marine environment, including exposure to saltwater, salt spray, and high humidity." Thanks to this coatings solution, the metal awning will be protected against corrosion and the Fernhill Soccer Club will have a fresh and improved look for the new season. Exciting progress at Pakenham station construction, where the future is taking shape before our eyes. This ambitious project, a collaboration between the Level Crossing Removal Project, Genton, John Holland, and Stilcon Steel, aims to create a station that will not only serve as a bustling pedestrian and shopping precinct but also seamlessly connect the Pakenham community to various public transport options. Dulux® Protective Coatings, Chris Eldred, has been part of the Pakenham Station project, specifying coating systems instrumental in several stages of the build. A standout feature is the design of skylights flooding the space with natural light and showcasing stunning bronze canopies upon completion. Stilcon Steel fabricates these skylights with attention to detail, evident through the implementation of two coating stages. The concealed sections coated with Dulux® Zincanode® 402 primer, protect the steel from corrosion. For the top of the skylights, a four-coat system enhances aesthetics and durability. The system includes Zincanode 402, Dulux® Durebild® STE, Dulux® Quantum® FX, and Dulux® Durethane™ Low Sheen, ensuring a long-lasting and visually appealing result. It’s game day every day for 185 kids who enter Kool Beanz SUNS Academy through the Gold Coast’s biggest AFL football. This first-of-its-kind childcare centre was opened in March 2023, a $10M development completed in just 14 months. The iconic football structure is protected with a two-coat system: ·        Primer: Dulux® Duremax® GPE ZP @ 125-microns (µm) ·        Topcoat: Dulux® Quantum® V92 @ 100-microns (µm) Fabricator and applicator iFab Steel did a great job completing the build and paint in only four weeks. All panels were sprayed off-site and later transported to the project site for install. With football colours being instantly recognisable, finding the perfect match was key. “The project required very specific colours, Pantone 485 C and 116 C, which our team were able to match and then mix in the Quantum V92,” explains Dulux® Protective Coatings, Light Industrial Technical Sales Representative Peta Bray. Quantum V92 offers both high gloss colour and impact, while providing superior protection from graffiti and UV exposure.
