DRIVING THE EV TRANSITION: Customers and communities stand to benefit from a proposal by the three NSW electricity distribution networks to accelerate the roll out of EV charging infrastructure across NSW. Our General Manager Future Grid and Asset Management, Colin Crisafulli shared this vision today at the Standing Committee on Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water on EVs, joining Ausgrid’s Timothy Jarratt FEI and Essential Energy’s Anne Pearson, in highlighting the crucial role distribution networks can play in supporting EV adoption if enabled to facilitate kerbside charging infrastructure. Colin said, “We are advocating for customer-led reforms that deliver a faster, more cost-effective pathway for Australia to achieve a net-zero energy system. We have a great opportunity to both enhance the energy transition while aligning with global best practices to create a consistent, high-quality EV user experience to make EV ownership accessible to everyone. Networks are uniquely positioned to help more customers unlock the full value of owning an EV by leveraging their existing infrastructure to make public EV charging more widely accessible to renters and people living in apartments and affordable to complement at-home and fast-charging solutions.” Colin called out the potential of EVs to act as energy storage resources to help balance solar generation, enhance grid stability, and reduce electricity network costs saying, “Addressing EV charging infrastructure gaps makes EV ownership more convenient, affordable and available in areas where other providers may not offer public EV charging options. In parallel, we are helping build a more reliable, secure power system as more EVs help with the introduction of more renewables into the grid. “ He emphasised that distribution networks can deploy EV charging infrastructure faster, more cost-effectively and with broader community support than other options. It was great to hear Committee member Alison Byrnes MP, Member for Cunningham, endorse our commitment to engaging local stakeholders on planning the location of infrastructure, who shared that, “Endeavour Energy (NSW) has worked really well with our local council to put our community batteries at Warrawong and Dapto, so thank you very much for that!” To listen to the full Inquiry >> https://lnkd.in/gTmnhhS2 and read our submission >> https://lnkd.in/gmCJ7_FD #Customer #ElectricVehicles #EnergyTransition #PowerTogether #ModernGrid Cheryl Bart, Guy Chalkley, Leanne Pickering, Francoise Merit GAICD FCPA, Melissa Irwin, Andrew Pitman, Colin Crisafulli, David Campbell, Emma Ringland, Patrick Duffy, Dr. James Hazelton, Danny Thai, Vida Cheeseman, Kate McCue, Peter Payne

GETTING ON WITH IT: @Endeavour Energy welcomes the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)’s latest roadmap, the Integrated System Plan (ISP), which highlights the pivotal role that customers will play in delivering the optimal pathway for Australia to achieve a net-zero energy system by 2050. The ISP forecasts that effective coordination of consumer batteries could save up to $4.1 billion in grid-scale storage investments, helping to build a reliable, secure power system while lowering both emissions and energy bills. But this potential can only be realised if we actively create opportunities and remove barriers for customers to get involved. How to unleash this collective potential and enable customer led flexibility was the subject of a keynote address to the Batteries & Energy Storage Stream of Australian Energy Week 2024 by our General Manager Future Grid and Asset Management Colin Crisafulli. Outlining Endeavour Energy (NSW)’s vision for a dynamic customer centric distribution system to unlock the potential of Customer Energy Resources, Colin emphasised that the key to integrating behind-the-meter resources into the grid was empowering customers to make them the drivers of energy transition. “We’ve done groundbreaking customer research to turn the ISP’s potential into meaningful action,” Colin said. “Our approach starts with asking customers, ‘Where do you want to go?’ and ‘What will put you in the driver’s seat of the energy transition?’ Our decisions must be guided by customer-led policies and investments that educate people and help them connect the dots to encourage them to adopt net-zero technologies.” Thank you Quest Events for providing the platform for us to profile these game-changing opportunities to deliver customers a brighter energy future. #Customer #EnergyTransition #PowerTogether #ModernGrid Cheryl Bart, Guy Chalkley, Leanne Pickering, Francoise Merit GAICD FCPA, Melissa Irwin, Andrew Pitman, David Campbell, Frank Maniere, Peter Skiffington, Vida Cheeseman, Nathan Gocher, Dr. James Hazelton, Albert Pors, Peter Langdon, Vaib Bohra, Riza Tolentino, Rebecca Yu, Peter Payne

MAKING THE MOST OF OPPORTUNITIES: Speaking at the CEDA - Committee for Economic Development of Australia NSW Energy Market Update, our CEO Guy Chalkley shared his vision for the future of energy and the path to net zero alongside Minister for the Environment, Energy, Climate Change and Heritage the Hon Penny Sharpe, Brett Redman and Damien Nicks. Highlighting the transformative changes already underway, Guy emphasised the critical role of embracing current opportunities to transform them into impactful, scalable and sustainable solutions for customers. “By the early 2030s, we expect 90% of customers will have electric vehicles and at least 1 in 2 homes will generate their own solar energy. Transformational projects like the new city at Bradfield and the Western Sydney Airport will redefine our landscape, and artificial intelligence and cloud computing is opening new doors for innovation.” Guy’s message to embrace these opportunities was unambiguous: “Don’t look backwards, look forward. Imagine yourself in the shoes of your children and the next generation 10 years from now and be proud of the legacy you’ve created. To truly achieve a successful transition, we must approach each opportunity with optimism, listen to customers and focus on creating scalable, impactful solutions.” As Guy said, “The customer is your hero as their actions and choices are pivotal.” Thank you CEDA - Committee for Economic Development of Australia for fostering such a productive and forward-thinking discussion on the significant opportunities arising from energy transition. #energytransition #PowerTogether #moderngrid Cheryl Bart, Trevor Danos AM FTSE FRSN FAICD, Claudia Bels FAICD, Marlene Kanga AO FTSE FREng FAICD, Leanne Pickering, Francoise Merit GAICD FCPA, Melissa Irwin, Andrew Pitman, Colin Crisafulli, David Campbell, Vida Cheeseman, Kate McCue, Frank Maniere, Rebecca Yu, Stephen Sammut, Keryn Foreman, Patrick Duffy, Emma Ringland, Ben Chadwick, Peter Hanley, Dr. James Hazelton, Melissa Doueihi, Miranda Wood, Chloe Younan, Sarah L., Kelly Wood, Kellie Charlesworth, Jette Radley

NO WEAK LINKS: We’re pleased to collaborate with the Committee for Sydney on its #NoWeakLinks report advocating for shared responsibility in addressing the disruptive risks from climate change and urban growth which cause cascading failures in essential services, infrastructure and supply chains that are the lifeblood of modern cities. Our General Manager Safety & Operations David Campbell spoke to a packed house about the lessons he’d learnt to deliver resilient solutions that minimise disruptions across communities. Speaking about the importance of high-level strategy and partnerships coupled with local action in hard-hit communities to provide resilient solutions, David said “We have seen the same communities impacted by floods and fire time and time again. We are looking at what we can do at a local level, street by street to really make the network more resilient.” “Endeavour Energy (NSW) is transitioning from being a poles and wires business to address climate change and the way people are using energy differently and with a greater reliance,” David said. “Where we can, we are taking a step back to consider how we do things differently rather than just rebuild the network. We did this in building our first community microgrid at Bawley Point where we’ve worked with a community who went without power for more than 10 days {in the aftermath of the 2019 bushfires} to really understand their needs and co-design a better, more resilient solution.” Thank you Committee for Sydney and the other panellists Dr Christobel Ferguson, Penny Joseph, Katie Vines and Said Hirsh for promoting collaborative solutions to cross-sectoral interdependencies that are critical to enhancing infrastructure resilience.
