On 18 and 19 July, the Federal Court of Australia hosted a delegation from the High Court of the Solomon Islands, led by Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer. The delegates made the journey to the Melbourne Registry to observe and learn about the Court’s implementation of online filing and file management systems, and how the introduction of these practices has increased both the capacity and efficiency of the Court. The Federal Court’s online file management system is a first of its kind innovation and the Court is regularly asked to share its technological successes with international colleagues. Additionally, the delegates were given a tour of the Registry and enjoyed lunch with Chief Justice Mortimer and other Judges and representatives of the Court. The visit has served to strengthen the close working relationship between the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of the Solomon Islands and has deepened the connections and cooperation between the two Courts. #fca #auslaw #pacificjudicialintegrityprogram

On 10-11 July 2024 Chief Justice Mortimer presided over Consent Determinations in the Cape York United #1 Native Title matter. The Consent Determinations formally recognised the Country of the Olkola People, the Kunjen Olkol People and the Kowanyama People.
