This morning, we were honoured to host Claire Marshall, CEO of Emerge, for International Women’s Day. Claire shared her inspiring career journey, and the vital work Emerge does in supporting women and children experiencing family violence. Last year, FK was privileged to support Emerge with contributing our design expertise to convert a warehouse into a welcoming office and support hub for the organisation. We extend our sincere thanks to Claire for making the time to have a chat with us, for sharing her insights and empowering us to understand how, as a community and individually, we can accelerate action against family violence in the first place – towards a future in which Emerge services are no longer needed. #InternationalWomensDay #AccelerateAction

About us
At FK we listen, think, investigate and collaborate. We seek the simple, compelling solution. Our process through feasibility, design and documentation, enhanced by 3-D ‘information rich’ virtual building environments, is acclaimed by our clients and the international design community. The practice is renowned for producing buildings which are cutting edge in design, highly sculptural and with sound functional planning. Our approach has generated a high practice profile and gained over 85 industry and design awards in 20 years. We work throughout Australia and internationally, particularly Asia. Located in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, and with a sister office in London, our combined workforce of more than 120 practitioners employ a range of skills and high-end graphics and CAD technologies in the delivery of our services. FK has also developed a reputation both in Australia and internationally as an industry leader in utilising an integrated 3D virtual building methodology for its design and documentation processes. This approach, pioneered by FK, is changing the face of construction practices. Increasingly the specific design of large components of a building can be undertaken by major subcontractors using 3D computer based design harnessed to manufacturing processes, which in turn provides construction streamlining.

We're incredibly proud to see our work on the newly relaunched Sofitel Sydney Wentworth featured in The Australian's article on Australia's top hotel dining spots. Tilda and Bar Tilda, two of the four new House Made Hospitality F&B offerings within the hotel, are highlighted for their contemporary design and elevated dining experience. The article captures the unique atmosphere we aimed to create – the essence of the classic grille restaurant with a distinctive Australian twist. Tilda's design concept centres around its hyperlocal menu offering, deriving an earthy colour palette of burnt reds and terracotta, embodying the spirit of the Australian landscape. Simple, sustainable dishes celebrating local producers shine through, complemented by the impressive whisky list and curated wine selection. It's fantastic to see the team’s vision for this space recognised, and we're thrilled to have partnered with Sofitel and House Made Hospitality on this exciting refurbishment. #FK #SofitelSydneyWentworth #HotelDesign #RestaurantDesign #InteriorDesign #BarDesign #SydneyDining #HotelRestaurants

The FK-designed tower for Lendlease’s Melbourne Quarter precinct, was recently featured in The Urban Developer’s latest article “Five of the biggest projects under way this year”. Scheduled for completion later in 2025, Melbourne Quarter R2 will be the final piece to this long-standing urban renewal project. The mixed-use precinct, to date, includes three commercial towers and a residential tower. R2 will deliver an additional 797 build-to-rent apartments, bringing a diversity of rental options to the emerging Northbank area. We’re thrilled to announce that plans for Deicorp’s Zetland residential development were approved by the City of Sydney last month. This is major milestone for this site on Joynton Avenue, which will contribute to the 278-hectare Green Square precinct – one of Australia’s largest urban renewal areas located in Sydney’s inner city. Comprising five buildings, with three designed by FK with Besley Spresser and two designed by Candalepas Associates with Lachlan Seegers Architects, this development will deliver 571 apartments. These will be connected by a landscaped ground plane featuring commercial and retail tenancies, creating a vibrant and connected community. #FK #MissingMiddle #Residential #Precinct #UrbanRenewal #Placemaking #Sydney

500 Bourke Street was recently featured in an in-depth article by Australian Design Review, praising the team for its ‘masterclass in elemental interior design that embodies people and place’. Focused on the user experience, creating a sense of community within the reconfigured ground plane through agile ‘third spaces’ was central to our workplace design vision. As highlighted in the article by Jessica Agoston Cleary, “It is a building and a space people genuinely want to be in. Over the hour that ADR spent touring through the building with Nicky Drobis, every zone was in use. One group, huddled around laptops, coffee close at hand, appeared not to have moved. And why would you when your workspace has been so thoughtfully designed to be comfortable, inspiring and calming, with the convenience of integrated technology at your fingertips?” Continue reading here: https://lnkd.in/gaEiqmYN #FK #Retrofit #AdaptiveReuse #InteriorDesign #InteriorArchitecture #WorkplaceDesign #Reimagining #Placemaking
Two-thirds of the way down Bourke Street, in the pulsing professional services and finance heart of Melbourne’s central business district, you’ll find a robust brutalist office tower. Amid a sea of concrete, glass and steel towers that reach skyward like exalted totems of commerce, 500 Bourke Street stands out for two reasons. Firstly, it is one of the few high-quality, mid-1970s brutalist office towers remaining in the area. Secondly, through a recently completed adaptive reuse project by FK that embraced the original architect’s vision, it has been transformed into a contemporary expression of Australia. Find out how Nicky Drobis and her team at FK achieved this beautiful balance between Brutalism and contemporary Australian design on Australian Design Review. https://lnkd.in/gaEiqmYN

FK is thrilled to have played a pivotal role in the transformation of the iconic Sofitel Sydney Wentworth. Led by the Sydney studio, it's incredibly rewarding to see this landmark reimagined, recapturing the modern glamour of the 1960s jet set era with a distinctly Australian touch. As highlighted recently in The Australian Financial Review, the hotel's interior design has been meticulously crafted to evoke the spirit of a bygone era. We're honored to have contributed to this remarkable project and to share the positive experience from guests and locals.
