The development industry copped flak last year after a Cladding Safety Victoria (CSV) review found in the detailed building plans of 804 privately owned apartment buildings that 75 per cent (603) had ACP or EPS cladding. To date, CSV has resolved the cladding risk on about 1200 buildings, it told The Urban Developer, including 1067 private residential Class 2 buildings and 130 government-owned buildings, writes Clare J Burnett. A 50-year plan to turn a Perth port into “one of the world’s greatest waterfront cities” has been endorsed by the Western Australian Government. The Future for Fremantle project to revitalise the Fremantle Inner Harbour was launched off the back of the state’s decision to make Kwinana, to Perth’s south, the preferred location for a new container port for long-term freight activities, to be called Westport. It’s the day when, finally—let’s hope—the concrete is poured on the planning foundations for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics big build, writes Phil Bartsch. Last week, it was alleged a budget analysis had revealed a $3.5-billion funding “black hole” to build four planned athletes’ villages. But while pointing the finger at its predecessors over the cost blowouts, Queensland’s new conservative political regime is also spruiking the Olympics will bring with it “unmissable opportunities to accelerate development across the state”. There’s a lot of balls in the air. Or as former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk sees it, just one big “political football”. They already have two significant waterfront properties under construction on the other side of the Brisbane River, but south-east Queensland developer Spyre Group Pty Ltd is not one to rest on its laurels. With projects such as Glasshouse at Burleigh and Moray House at New Farm under its belt, the developer is looking to repeat its high-end successes in Brisbane’s inner-city suburb of Bulimba. Plans are being filed with the Brisbane City Council for the Cavill Architects-designed project, which would comprise 15 apartments on one of Bulimba’s last remaining riverfront blocks.
