The revised plan for 2 Fitzwilliam Street will see it become one of NSW's largest Build-To-Rent developments. The revision will deliver two BTR towers with approximately 800 homes including affordable housing and NDIS-compliant apartments, more than doubling the number of homes originally planned for the site. We are thrilled to announce a major milestone for our 2 Fitzwilliam Street, Parramatta project, which is now set to become one of NSW’s largest Build-To-Rent (BTR) developments. As part of the NSW Government’s new State Significant Rezoning Policy, our revised plan has been selected by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to proceed as a State Assessed Planning Proposal. The changes will allow approximately 800 BTR dwellings to be delivered, including affordable and NDIS-compliant apartments, as well as a 200-key hotel. The dual tower project will redefine the skyline of Parramatta CBD, becoming a true landmark that not only transforms the city, but also plays an important role in addressing Sydney’s housing challenges. We're proud to be able to contribute to the NSW Government’s housing strategy, supporting the creation of 377,000 new homes by 2029, and aligning with City of Parramatta’s 2050 vision of a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable city. We are absolutely thrilled to share that Associate & First Nations Lead at SJB, Jack Gillmer-Lilley, along with Michael Mossman and Emily McDaniel, has been selected as the creative directors for the 2025 Venice Biennale’s Australian Pavilion. Fresh from his Galang Residency at the Cité des Arts in Paris, Jack has been quietly contributing to the team’s concept for their proposal, Home. Jack, a proud Worimi & Biripi man, has been working closely with Emily McDaniel, a curator, writer, and educator from the Kalari Clan of the Wiradjuri Nation, and Michael Mossman, a lecturer and researcher at the University of Sydney, and proud Kuku-Yalanji man. While we weren’t involved in the winning concept, we are incredibly proud to support Jack as he embarks on this exciting journey, and we can’t wait to see this extraordinary team bring their vision to life. Our team are excited to announce that we will be transforming the Australian Pavilion at the Australian Venice Architecture Biennale. We will present HOME for the 19th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale Di Venezia 2025. The Creative Directorial team Dr Michael Mossman, Emily McDaniel and Jack Gillmer-Lilley behind HOME, were nominated to represent the voices of First Nations design practitioners: Clarence Slockee, Kaylie Salvatori, Bradley Kerr and Elle Davidson. During the process of gathering ideas we shared stories, memories and experiences. The proposal is the embodiment of our emotions, connections, relationionality to Country, and aspirations yarned over the course of the development of HOME. We will create an immersive, culturally rich experience. We are excited to celebrate the Australian Pavilion with expressions of our living cultures and invite others to deeply reflect on their own understanding of HOME. Who’s keen for Venice in 2025? Located on a quiet street just off the main road of Ararat, Victoria, Ararat House stands out amid its Edwardian and Victorian-era neighbors. Originally a 1950s dwelling, the home has been transformed with a north-south addition, creating new living, kitchen, and dining spaces. Designed by SJB Director Adam Haddow for his parents, the house is filled with personal details that reflect his parents way of living, crafted by someone who knows them best. Ararat House was recently featured in Houses Magazine, on shelves now. #architecture #design #australiandesign #houses #housesmagazine

“When there is attention to sustainability and design, as well as landscaping and tree canopy, everyone in the community benefits … And after nearly four years of construction, the area is buzzing on a Saturday morning.” says Surry Hills Village resident, Lesley Holden. A project almost a decade in the making, the development led by TOGA recently opened its doors to residents and the surrounding community, with the residential and retail components now complete. The new retail component, Wunderlich Lane, provides not only much-needed amenities and connection for the community through a new east-west pedestrian connection across the site, but also offers a thoughtful, deliberate and curated mix of retail and hospitality offerings to ensure consumer needs are met, whilst ensuring Wunderlich Lane is a true “18 hour precinct." A true culmination of local talent and knowledge of place, the precinct has been brought to life by the various talented designers including Studio Prineas ASPECT Studios and 360 Degrees. Surry Hills Village has been featured in the Sydney Morning Herald, check it out. https://lnkd.in/gz3saPZU #architecture #mixeduse #precinct #sydney #masterplan #collaboration #design #australiandesign

With the potential to be one of south west Sydney’s most significant urban renewal projects, the master plan for Moore Point reached an important milestone last week after an almost decade-long process. Our masterplan for the 32ha site was placed on public exhibition, after being cleared by the NSW Government. Our urban team has been undertaking studies for the project for several years, cumulating in a planning proposal lodged in 2020. If approved, the rezoning could see 11,000 new homes be built, with at least 400 of these to be allocated as affordable housing for frontline workers, a new 1000 student public school and over 10ha of open space. The master plan makes use of the unique waterfront position for public amenity, with the inclusion of over 6ha of public space along the riverfront, connected with green gridded streets, bridges and a bus interchange. The Planning Proposal was prepared by Mecone - Urban Planning in collaboration with a design team that includes Turf Design Studio for public domain, Hatch for place-making, and Yerrabingin Pty Ltd for connecting with Country, along with an incredible team of consultants. Our Director, Jonathan Knapp has been there from the beginning and is thrilled to see the project take this significant step. “This could be one of the most important urban renewal projects for our city, and to see the years of work by our team be recognised is not only incredibly rewarding but also a major step in the right direction to provide more housing and amenity for the communities of Sydney.” Client: Coronation Property and Leamac Property Group Featured on SMH, Daily Telegraph and The Urban Developer this week. https://lnkd.in/gPjPVcdc

Zero Gipps is a standout workplace creating a ripple of quiet intrigue in Melbourne’s historic Collingwood. This six-storey building combines old and new, strategically adapting the existing red-brick factory alongside a modern extension of brick, concrete, and glass. It’s a future-focused workplace, with innovation and sustainable design at its core. A workplace that’s great for tenants and workers, supporting their health and well being, and one that they’ll enjoy going to, every day. Honouring its history, the building incorporates original elements and circular design principles. Workers enter through an original wall opening into a central courtyard with an edible garden. True to its name, Zero Gipps boasts zero operational emissions and gas, with 100 solar panels generating 35kW of energy and natural ventilation through tilt-and-turn windows, offering a refreshing alternative to traditional office spaces. Rather than being treated as leftover space, the public domain at Fitzwilliam Street Parramatta has played a key role in shaping the design. The podium responds to natural movement paths through the public domain—people, wind, and water—creating an organic form that guides people intuitively, scales to human proportions, and adapts to the natural topography of the site. The podium has an ordered rhythm where forming a civic colonnade, and is sculptural where carving out space for a public room. In the skies above, two towers —one commercial and one residential, are related through verticality and material. The new commercial tower offers both high levels of amenity and flexibility, with a structural system that accommodates multiple tenancy arrangements or changing future uses. An exciting announcement for Yarralumla Brickworks! Eight years in the making, the announcement of the approved Estate Development Plan allows the project to progress. Yarralumla Brickworks is a unique mixed use development in the heart of Canberra, focused on delivering a reimagination of the original Brickworks and kilns to include a residential precinct, restaurants, bars, a bakery, boutique commercial spaces, a day spa, skin clinic, and allied health spaces. "“This heritage significant site will reveal layers of the past to the new occupants with most of the existing structures retained, repurposed and left as relics to evidence the industrial history. We’re thrilled to see this project progress and look forward to working with Doma and the team of architects to deliver a truly unique offering in the Canberra market,” says SJB Director, Emily Wombwell.

The latest approvals for DOMA Group are a “critical step” in its renewal of a Canberra historical landmark. Doma is redeveloping the old Canberra Brickworks site at Yarralumla, which at one time produced the red bricks of Canberra’s oldest homes and the original Parliament House, following its foundation in 1913. Doma is planning 380 homes on the 16.1ha site, with the overall project tipped to cost $58 million. In the past week, we've been fortunate to see three of our projects recognised at the UDIA Awards, The Urban Developer Awards, and the INDE Awards. Kurraba Residences by Thirdi Group Group took home Development of the Year in the Medium Density Residential category at The Urban Developer Awards, while 2 Macpherson Street in Hurstville by Homes NSW won the Affordable Housing category at the UDIA Awards, demonstrating how design can make senior social housing both welcoming and functional. Nightingale Marrickville also received a high commendation at the INDE Awards in the multi-residential space category. Another affordable housing development, the project fosters a cohesive community and focuses on sustainable practices while creating a housing option for those who need it most.
