Gratitude is underrated in it’s true nature, it can however act as a superpower when it comes to thriving in adversity 🦹♀️. We were incredibly proud to contribute to today's Future Generation Global Conference, hosted at the EY offices in Sydney, Australia. It was inspiring to be among such a passionate group of allies and social impact champions, all working towards the betterment of young people's mental health. Our Global Online Safety Advisor and Brand Director Yasmin London had the opportunity to share Qoria's views on a panel discussing key online harms and the important exploration of solutions, particularly regarding the ongoing age verification debate. Striking the right balance between young people's digital safety and protecting their inherent right to participate and utilise the internet is a challenge we must address head-on. The discussions were thought-provoking, with fantastic debates and insights shared by all. A big thank you to Future Generation for the invitation and to everyone involved for their commitment to making a positive impact. We know that none of us is as powerful as all of us. #DigitalSafety #MentalHealth #SocialImpact #Qoria #FutureGenGlobal #AgeVerification Linewize ANZ (part of the Qoria family) ySafe by Qoria Amanda Third Professor Selena Bartlett Annabel Crabb Mia Garlick Ingrid Pyne (nee Mansell) Caroline Gurney

Thank you to Future Generation for hosting a rich and thought provoking two days. Lots of great work being done with young people and lots still to do. Great to be able to collaborate and get to know each of the 14 NFP organisations involved in this partnership. Humbling to consider our cumulative impact and subsequent ripple effects. #collaboration #responsiblescalability

Yesterday we had the privilege of being invited to Future Generation's breakfast event: "Why prevention matters and the challenges of social media for young people". The amazing Annabel Crabb moderated two brilliant panels, bringing to light a unique melting pot of issues. Three big paradoxes stood out: ・There's a youth mental health crisis, but it's not always visible. According to the panel, 40% of Young Australians have or will suffer from a form of mental illness. The link to social media is clear; rates of youth mental illness have increased 50% since 2007. Yet alarmingly, only 3% of parents are aware of their kid's mental health issues. ・Social media brings harm, but it's also a valuable source of connection for kids. Harvard's Adult Development study established that social connection is the biggest contributor to longevity and quality of life. Despite this, social "third spaces" for kids are decreasing, and as a result they're turning to social media to find connection. Amanda Third put it best: "Kids aren't addicted to their phones, they're addicted to talking to their friends all the time". ・Blanket bans encourage hidden usage, further worsening the impacts on mental health. Connection is too powerful a driver to be stopped with prohibition alone, so kids will inevitably find creative ways around restrictive measures. The panel cited an example; the new digital token ID Systems, which aims to age-gate certain online content, resulted in an apparent 1000%-9000% surge in VPN usage. Straightforward interventions designed to limit access don't work. The yearning for connection that underpins social media usage is too strong. As we heard in yesterday's panel, early intervention, strengths-based approaches, and education rather than pure prohibition are all critical. However, as the panel themselves pointed out, there weren't many young perspectives in the room. This begs the question: How could we be tackling the complex problem of youth mental health with approaches that design with kids, not just for them? Thank you to FGG for inviting us and thank you to the panellists for sharing their amazing insight!

Em Howells - Youth Advisory Group, Prevention United I recently had the privilege of attending the Future Generation (FGG) event in Sydney, with Prevention United. I was honoured to participate as a panellist in the session titled "A Conversation with Youth Advocates." During this panel, I had the opportunity to convey to FGG organizations the current concerns of young people and how they can be addressed. With topics spanning from the cost-of-living crisis, the impact of social media and the need to collaborate with young people. I also was able to discuss the work Prevention United's youth advisory committee has done this year. As part of my recent work with Prevention United, the Youth Advisory Committee developed a survey focusing on the mental well-being of young Australians. This survey assessed positive impacts, desired government policies, and the types of outreach programs that would engage youth. It was incredibly rewarding to use this newly collected data to amplify the voices of many Australian youth to a broad audience of organizations. The event also provided valuable insights from numerous experts and passionate individuals in the field, showcasing various efforts to support and promote mental well-being. The networking opportunities were exceptional. On the second day, during a discussion about social media's impact, journalist Annabel Crabb invited me to provide a youth perspective. This perspective, I believe, is often lacking in conversations about social media and mental health. In conclusion, I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and I have left ever so inspired! #youthparticipation #youthmentalhealth #mentalhealthpromotion Kylie Maidment Matilda Houlihan Annabel Crabb Amanda Third Mia Garlick Professor Selena Bartlett Sina Aghamofid Suzanne Dick

It was a treat to share the stage with Anna Brown OAM, Simon Oats, Patrick Churnside & Scott Rankin and chat about “Storytelling for Impact” at the Future Generation Exchange Event yesterday🎤📚 We explored how combining stories and 'hard data' creates powerful impact reporting. This work we did with QLife and LGBTIQ+ Health Australia is a great example of storytelling for impact on the ground. https://lnkd.in/gMQSTQ_w Big shout out to the orgs we spent time with yesterday and who are doing amazing work in the youth mental health prevention space.
