💭Food for Friday thought... We all have a role to play in addressing the homelessness situation. In today's rapidly evolving housing landscape, the need for innovative and economically viable solutions has never been more urgent. At last years' FTMA Australia Conference, a compelling narrative unfolded, showcasing how timber prefabrication stands at the forefront of reshaping Australia's housing future. Robert Pradolin GAICD insights not only highlighted the critical role of prefab in addressing the housing shortage but also underscored the potential for industry-wide collaboration to make a tangible impact. By investing in affordable, public, and social housing, we can stimulate economic growth, reduce government expenditure, and most importantly, improve the quality of life for countless Australians. The Marrickville project, as discussed by Pradolin, exemplifies the synergy of purpose and profit, demonstrating the power of prefab timber to transform our cities into more inclusive, sustainable, and vibrant communities. Australians deserve a balanced, quality conversation on housing reform. Is this the breakthrough we need?
A new approach to essential worker housing? Housing All Australians has put forward a bold model to unlock private sector investment in affordable housing, using planning incentives and digital tracking to maintain long-term affordability. Robert Pradolin GAICD is championing the idea, but not everyone is convinced. Karen Walsh from National Shelter is challenging whether this approach can truly deliver more homes for essential workers - or if it raises more questions than it answers. Australians deserve a balanced, quality conversation on housing reform. Is this the breakthrough we need? #HousingReform #AffordableHousing #EssentialWorkers #Housing

Have you delved into our Give Me Shelter economic studies? Time to read up: https://hubs.ly/Q0365TJf0 At a glance: Give Me Shelter is a ground-breaking series of reports outlining the significant costs of not addressing the chronic shortage of affordable, public and social housing in Australia. Commissioned by Housing All Australians (HAA), the economic studies show decades of underinvestment by governments in “non-market” housing has led to social housing numbers falling to record lows – just 4 per cent of national housing stock, compared with 6 per cent in 1996.

Fantastic support of our first Tasmanian project. To get Amelie House to completion we will need all the help we can get. Is your organisation ready to take action? “This collaborative approach between government, business, and social services represents a cost-effective solution to address housing insecurity while preventing the cycle of homelessness,” said HAA CEO Dan McKenna. “We know the scale of the housing crisis is too big for government to solve alone. “Through engaging the private sector, we can deliver innovative solutions to Tasmania’s housing crisis. We believe it’s in Tasmania’s long-term economic interest to house all its people, rich or poor.” Australian Property Journal, Vinnies Tasmania, The Ascott Limited https://hubs.ly/Q035wHBl0

The linking element between Ascott Limited and Vinnies Tasmania, Housing All Australians chief executive Dan McKenna echoed Mr McGrath's sentiments about the important role the private sector had to play in tackling social issues. "We see huge problems across our cities, especially in Hobart of people sleeping rough, or people experiencing homelessness," he said. "For us, it's about what can we actually do. It's about taking action; it's about pulling together resources and not sort of putting up our hands and saying 'this is all too hard, this is all too big'." "It's all of our problem if we're not housing all of our community." Thanks to Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and @Meg Whitfield. Our first project in Tasmania, Amelie House, will provide accommodation for up to 43 females. "This act of generosity underscores a vital lesson for businesses everywhere: the power of thoughtful decisions in creating lasting change. Furniture, often discarded during upgrades, holds immense potential to transform lives when redirected to those in need. Beyond the immediate benefit to recipients, such donations significantly reduce waste, promote environmental sustainability, and foster a culture of corporate social responsibility."
