"You always think you're going to have time to react. That you'll have time to do something. But you don't." That's what Matt says when he looks back on the road accident that changed his life. Matt and Dinyse are a young couple living with their pets in Beaudesert, Queensland. Before their accident, they loved rock climbing, hiking, and travelling throughout Australia. Matt and Dinyse both worked physical jobs that they loved. Matt was a mechanic by trade, and Dinyse worked in a warehouse and as a horse trainer. They were SES volunteers in their local community. But a road accident changed all that. It meant that Matt and Dinyse needed to find a new way forward. Read their story here: https://brnw.ch/21wKSdS #WorkInjury #RoadSafety Omar Sarac

We have launched a class action against Harvey Norman related to extended warranties known as "Product Care". These warranties are offered to customers at Harvey Norman, Domayne and Joyce Mayne as protection to cover faults in their goods when they buy electrical goods, home appliances or home entertainment products. We allege that Product Care was of no real value to customers because they already have the same protections for free under the Australian Consumer Law. If you have been sold Product Care between 20 September 2018 and 19 September 2024, you are likely already a part of this class action. We strongly recommend you register to ensure that we can let you know about any court decisions that could affect your ability to claim compensation money. We have recently been inundated with tip-offs following our public call for information regarding allegations at Highlands Christian College (formerly Christian Outreach College) in the late 1990s. We are representing a brave individual who has come forward with allegations of abuse by a member of the religious organisation associated with the school. This courageous step has already encouraged over 25 others to share their experiences. “It is very heartwarming for our client, but it is devastating to hear there has been a problematic culture at the school that has been detrimental to other people over a long period of time", says MB's Heather Kerley. We are committed to seeking justice for survivors of historical child sexual abuse, and we stand by our commitment to uncover the truth and support all survivors in their pursuit of justice. If you have any information, please come forward. Your voice matters. Read the full article here ➡️ https://brnw.ch/21wMPve

Major mining sites can be like small cities. Multiple companies and other stakeholders can be involved in the infrastructure of a single site. Work-related injuries - even devastating ones - are not uncommon. But the legal aftermath can be complex. It's not always clear who bears liability for an injury. So, how do our specialist lawyers investigate these claims and win justice for our clients? Read about it at our blog by MB's Elspeth Ledwy: https://brnw.ch/21wMPpq

Many Kiwis travel to Australia for work, with the biggest concentration in Queensland. However, a lack of legal entitlements can put Kiwis in a tough spot if they are injured and unable to work in Australia. "If you're a New Zealander in Australia, or if you're considering coming here for a working holiday, you need to know what rights you do have - and how to access your entitlements if you find yourself in need." - MBs Leanne Kerr (Lawyer, Personal Injuries) Read about it on our blog: https://brnw.ch/21wMLmb

Legal challenges often go hand-in-hand with complex financial situations. You might be seeking legal help because you can no longer work and need advice about your entitlements. Maybe you've achieved a settlement or payout, and now you need help figuring out what to do with it. "Spotting the red flags in financial advice early can protect your retirement savings and help avoid a calamity. Knowing what to watch for is key." says MB's Josh Mennen. So what are the red flags? Check out our list of warning signs that you might need to seek a second opinion: https://lnkd.in/gBHhB7CK #RedFlags

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in Australia. But you might not know that it's often caused by dangerous working conditions. George developed prostate cancer after exposure to dangerous chemicals at work. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. It's a time to consider the need for prevention, screening, and research into treatment. Workplace exposure to cancer-causing substances raises questions about workplace safety and cancer prevention – and compensation for those who have developed cancer after a workplace exposure. Read George's story on our blog.

Toxic workplaces and bad managers might be tempted to penalise their employees for exercising their workplace rights. What kind of rights are we talking about? It might be something as simple as exercising a leave entitlement, or it might be something like exercising your right to make a complaint, get information about your employment, or act as a whistleblower. And the retaliation could be anything from a career slow-down to a sacking - even one disguised as a "redundancy". But this kind of retaliation can be against the law. One of these cases is in the news today. Jasmine Chambers took on the Bureau of Meteorology - and won, with the help of MB's Mia Pantechis.
