Cutting Edge lucky door prize winner Tanya Mudariki has won the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) golden ticket to #IMARC24 in Sydney from October 29 to 31. Tanya accepted her prize from MC Hedley Widdup. The club thanks #IMARC24 for the sponsorship prize, a much sought after prize for the upcoming three day event in Sydney. The Cutting Edge is sponsored by PwC Australia. The bumper crowd was entertained by closing remarks from PwC partner Ben Gargett, who has also joined the MMC steering committee this year. MMC members and guests have one more Cutting Edge event in 2024. This is a highly popular showcase of emerging companies with big ideas.
About us
The Melbourne Mining Club (MMC) is a not-for-profit joint venture between the AusIMM and the Minerals Council of Australia to promote the minerals industry and offer a networking forum for those operating in this vital sector of the Australian economy. Formed in 2001, MMC has become a pre-eminent resource industry forum and networking opportunity provider. A volunteer-based Steering Committee organises six bi-monthly industry lunches that attract speakers from the world’s leading mining and mining services companies, and five popular Cutting Edge events for the small-and medium cap companies. MMC also runs the annual Melbourne Mining Club in London dinner which is a highlight of the global resource calendar. These events offer unparalleled networking and resource sector promotional activities. The club is also committed to fostering and promoting innovation across the sector, from exploration to processing and mining technologies in our Cutting Edge afternoon lecture and networking sessions. Today, we had the pleasure of hearing from Simon Trott Chief Executive Iron Ore at Rio Tinto in conversation with Jennifer Hewett from The Australian Financial Review. Simon spoke about his career journey, the value of culture and high performing teams, diversity, social licence, the future for iron ore and some of his leadership lessons such as the value of curiosity and resilience in driving success. It was wonderful to see such enthusiastic engagement from the students in the audience. Thank you to the Rio Tinto team for making this event possible as well as our sponsors and members for their ongoing support.

Congratulations to our Maestro MC and Steering Committee founder Gavan Collery OAM for being a 2024 AusIMM Outstanding Leadership Award winner. Leadership is something Gavan has given to the Melbourne Mining Club in spades over nearly a quarter of a century. Gavan's name is synonymous with the planning and execution of MMC events from the Melbourne Town Hall, to Sydney, Djakarta, Beijing, Shanghai and his favourite, the City of London. The long-time executive at WMC is also well-known for his work with the Philippines-focused Indophil Resources, including the establishment of the Philippines Mining Club in Manila. More recently Gavan's focus has been closer to home assisting in the development and growth of the Victorian mining sector.

Photo gallery from the September Cutting Edge, sponsored by PwC Australia. Three great speakers in top form, Jon Price from Richmond Vanadium Technology; Mark English from Auric Mining Limited (ASX:AWJ) and Philippa Leggat from Critica Limited, who excited members and guests by sprinkling the crowd with chocolates before her strong presentation. That's how to get a crowd onside!!! A fun and educational night, capped off by a vote of thanks from Ben Gargett, of PwC Australia.

Congratulations to all the winners of this year's Women in Resources Awards!
Delivering leadership development programs and one on one coaching to support you and your team to create a culture people want to be a part of and lead with purpose
A big shout out to the incredible Victorian finalists who represented at the Women in Resources National Awards last week in Canberra! It was fantastic to see you standing alongside the other state finalists, showcasing the amazing talent and dedication within our industry. 🙌 One thing we do exceptionally well in our industry is celebrate not just the winners, but all of the finalists, and recognise the collective achievements of everyone on the night. 👏 I’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to my fellow judges for the care, attention, and robust discussions that go into the judging process. It’s always a privilege to come together to work on the awards. #WomenInResources #DiversityAndInclusion #CelebratingSuccess #IndustryLeadership #mineralscouncilaustralia

I love the stories behind how mineral deposits get their name. What's bigger than Jupiter ? Critica Limited I wish you all the best in coming up with some names for the areas in the new dotted lines. But also, kudos for hitting high grade rare earths again - beginning to look like a district. Or Solar system - you decide... #rareearthelements #CRI
