📢 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 🕵♂️ The global #mining industry remains firmly committed to #decarbonisation, new research by Mining Journal Intelligence (MJI) shows, with four-fifths (79.8%) of industry professionals believe the industry should at least 'do its bit' in global efforts to cut #carbon #emissions. Despite the strong support for decarbonisation, the survey revealed widespread doubts about the industry's ability to meet its targets. Nearly two-thirds of respondents (63.6%) described net zero as an unrealistic goal for mining. Timeline: A labour dispute at the world's largest #copper mine has escalated, threatening to disrupt global copper supplies. The BHP-operated Escondida mine in Chile became the focal point for protests after workers overwhelming rejected a new three year collective bargaining agreement, alleging that the company was unfairly distributing mine dividends and making "no legitimate progress towards worker goals." At the heart of the dispute is the union's demand for 1% of the mine's dividends to be distributed equally among workers, reflecting broader concerns over income inequality at the site. After many twists, turns and speculations it seems there won’t be a court case after all, with news that #Endeavour Mining's former chief executive, Sébastien de Montessus, paid US$1.35 million to the company in July following a settlement agreement. In January, Endeavour fired De Montessus for alleged serious misconduct, saying that it found irregular payments of $5.9 million linked to the sale of the #Agbaou mine in Côte d'Ivoire in 2021. In March, the company finished the full investigation and said it found further hidden payments of $15 million in addition to the original $5.9 million. Endeavour shares have fallen 11% since the start of the year, but have largely recovered from the dip in January. Read more here https://lnkd.in/e5YDc8sE
