Cutting Edge lucky door prize winner Tanya Mudariki has won the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) golden ticket to #IMARC24 in Sydney from October 29 to 31. Tanya accepted her prize from MC Hedley Widdup. The club thanks #IMARC24 for the sponsorship prize, a much sought after prize for the upcoming three day event in Sydney. The Cutting Edge is sponsored by PwC Australia. The bumper crowd was entertained by closing remarks from PwC partner Ben Gargett, who has also joined the MMC steering committee this year. MMC members and guests have one more Cutting Edge event in 2024. This is a highly popular showcase of emerging companies with big ideas.

Today, we had the pleasure of hearing from Simon Trott Chief Executive Iron Ore at Rio Tinto in conversation with Jennifer Hewett from The Australian Financial Review. Simon spoke about his career journey, the value of culture and high performing teams, diversity, social licence, the future for iron ore and some of his leadership lessons such as the value of curiosity and resilience in driving success. It was wonderful to see such enthusiastic engagement from the students in the audience. Congratulations to our Maestro MC and Steering Committee founder Gavan Collery OAM for being a 2024 AusIMM Outstanding Leadership Award winner. Leadership is something Gavan has given to the Melbourne Mining Club in spades over nearly a quarter of a century. Gavan's name is synonymous with the planning and execution of MMC events from the Melbourne Town Hall, to Sydney, Djakarta, Beijing, Shanghai and his favourite, the City of London. The long-time executive at WMC is also well-known for his work with the Philippines-focused Indophil Resources, including the establishment of the Philippines Mining Club in Manila. More recently Gavan's focus has been closer to home assisting in the development and growth of the Victorian mining sector.
