Chief Development Officer - Regional & Remote at nbn® Australia

I’m posting from Townsville today, where nbn® Australia is proud to be a national partner of the 2024 Bush Summit, joining major political and industry leaders to discuss the issues that matter most to regional Australians.    We know broadband connectivity is not only essential, but it is a great enabler for growth, innovation and opportunity when it comes to business, education, health, entertainment, and social connection. In short, it means a more level playing field and a brighter future for the regions. We’ll continue investing in network upgrades to deliver better broadband for homes and business across regional Australia and enable them to participate in the digital economy, making great things happen from wherever they’re located.    nbn will have a major presence across all events throughout Bush Summit, here in Townsville, as well in Bendigo, Launceston, McLaren Vale, Orange, and Port Hedland over the next week, so please come and have a chat to us and let us know how we can help you get the most out of your broadband.     We’re looking forward to participating in meaningful discussions and understanding where nbn can continue to positively impact Australia’s growing regions through connectivity today, tomorrow and in the digital future that’s to come. #BushSummit2024 #RegionalAustralia

Imagine running a cattle farm in remote Queensland with little or no mobile service and no internet connection. 🤯 That was the reality for Angie and Brant Bettridge until they connected to the nbn. Now, they can manage their finances, track their cattle, and provide their daughters with a quality education. 🔖 Read about their journey👇

In March 2022, the Commonwealth Government and nbn® Australia announced a $750 million co-investment commitment to upgrade nbn’s Fixed Wireless and Satellite networks to help meet the growing needs of homes and businesses in regional Australia. This is enabling nbn to upgrade its Fixed Wireless network using state of the art 4G and 5G technologies which is on track for completion in December 2024. To ensure nbn continues to progress our efforts to improve the energy efficiency of its network, we have installed Ericsson’s innovative equipment with Microsleep Tx software on 2,400 Fixed Wireless towers which services rural and regional communities across Australia. In line with our commitment to reduce annual energy use by 25 GWh per annum by December 2025, nbn is reducing power consumption by five per cent across its Fixed Wireless network which is the equivalent of powering 200 Australian homes.   Our national fibre upgrade program is central to our plan to enable long-term reductions in network power demand and improve customer experience. nbn is on track to enable over 10 million premises – or up to 90 per cent of the Fixed Line network – to access close to Gigabit speeds by the end of 2025.   Read more https://lnkd.in/gDnU8keG

Scammers are always targeting unsuspecting people via several malicious links and websites claiming to help them. Staying safe from such scams is important. Always 👇 🤔 Think before you click on a link 🛡️ Check if a link is authentic by contacting the source, if you think it is phishy, it might just be 🚨 Stay vigilant and stay safe from online scams If you think you’ve been sent a malicious link and you’ve clicked on it, visit Australian Signals Directorate website to report it and know more.

Phishing is one of the most common and effective techniques used by cybercriminals to gain unauthorised access to a computer system or network. Once a victim engages with the malicious link or file, they may be prompted to provide personal details, or malware may run on their device to covertly retrieve this information. Cybercriminals may then use this information to steal money or goods, or leverage this information to access other accounts and systems of higher value. Australians are becoming more aware of techniques dependent on social engineering (like phishing) but more can be done to build resilience: ✔️ Think twice before clicking on links from unsolicited correspondence ✔️ Verify the legitimacy of suspicious messages with the source via their official website or verified contact information, particularly if it is a request to transfer money or supply sensitive information. Visit the entity’s website directly, rather than via links in emails, SMS or other messaging services ✔️ Report unusual activity as quickly as possible to ReportCyber and Scamwatch ✔️ Educate staff on corporate-focused social engineering tactics and how to identify risk. Visit https://lnkd.in/gdPhG42Q to read all of our guidance on how to protect yourself and your business.
