Neara held our EU Offsite 2024 with team members from Lithuania, EU, UK and several from US/AU as well. The team participated in great workshops and team bonding adventures–it was a fantastic opportunity for remote teams to mingle! Thanks to our own Nicola Hook and Taco Engelaar for putting the event together. #Offsite #TeamBonding

Intelligence for infrastructure
About us
At Neara, we're helping utilities future-proof their infrastructure. We create 3D network-wide models that reflect and simulate how utility assets behave in their real-world environment in any scenario, empowering you to prepare your network for anything — from systematic risks to severe weather and a clean energy future, so you can protect your assets, teams, and communities. Our customers identify and reduce risks 9x faster across a combined territory of >1M square miles and >7.9m assets from Southern California to Ireland to Australia. Neara is honoured to have our Founder, Daniel Danilatos, included on The Australian’s Top 100 Innovators 2024 list in the energy category for our mission to future-proof energy networks around the world. The award honours the best and the brightest Australians leading the way as they turn good ideas into products and services for local and global markets, and innovators making a difference in our world. Neara serves utility customers globally across Australia, North America, and EMEA. Thank you to The Australian for recognizing our innovations to improve energy risk mitigation for utilities to make informed decisions safely, efficiently, and with environmental responsibility.

What happens when heavy rainfall, aging infrastructure, and insufficient flood management systems collide? The result is often an increased risk of severe flooding, even in areas that historically haven’t faced such threats. Predictive modeling tools can help this growing challenge by simulating flood scenarios, giving utilities the insights needed to spot and address vulnerabilities before they escalate into major issues. By identifying weaknesses in infrastructure and flood defenses early, communities can stay better protected and prepared for future storms. Learn more about how advanced modeling can enhance your flood management strategy at Neara.com. #FloodManagement #PredictiveModeling #ResilientInfrastructure

Did You Know? Texas’ daily power demand will hit 118 gigawatts by 2030 – a 35% jump from today’s levels (Nathalie Limandibhratha, Helen Kou, BloombergNEF). The factors driving this surge: rapid population growth, expanding industrial activity, and a shift toward electrification are putting increasing pressure on the grid. As demand climbs, utilities face the challenge of maintaining reliability and managing capacity. But what’s the best way forward? We must anticipate and tackle these pressures before they overwhelm the system. With advanced modeling tools, utilities can simulate future demand, spot vulnerabilities, and fix potential issues early, ensuring a stable and resilient power supply for an electrified and growing future. #EnergyDemand #GridResilience #UtilityManagement

Extreme weather isn’t just a season; it’s part of our new reality. With the devastating floods in Australia and winter storms expected in the US, utilities around the globe are facing a pressing challenge: ensuring reliable power while addressing the impacts of extreme weather. These incidents underscore the urgent need for a proactive approach to infrastructure management, as traditional methods struggle to keep pace with rapidly changing conditions. Check out our Chief Commercial Officer Jack Curtis' piece on how AI and digital modeling technology can protect critical infrastructure from the impacts of extreme weather.

“Now we can analyze our entire overhead distribution system in about three hours, and we can also analyze the transmission system in roughly that same amount of time.” Neara and CenterPoint Energy are working together, enabling CenterPoint’s team to make faster, data-informed decisions in power line management. CenterPoint’s Eric Easton, Ph.D., P.E. spoke to Houston Public Media about the predictive modeling technology. With Neara, they can foresee tree growth and wind patterns, and figure out what and how many resources they’ll need when the next storm hits. Check out the article in the comments! #RiskMitigation #CenterPointEnergy #DisasterPreparedness

“Using the model, what would have taken us a year and a half would take us about 3 hours.” Yesterday our own Robert B. and Nicole Arres were on location in North Houston, Texas with Eric Easton, Ph.D., P.E. and the CenterPoint Energy team to show KPRC-NBC how our post-Beryl partnership will proactively improve resilience and reliability for the millions of people CenterPoint serves. The International Energy Agency (IEA) is right. Increasing grid capacity to integrate renewable energy projects is fundamental to achieving net zero. Discussions around clean energy too often focus on increasing renewable production, without considering how this energy will be transmitted to consumers. As a result, green projects are currently waiting years - sometimes decades - to be connected to the grid. This ‘gridlock’ is slamming the brakes on efforts to build a sustainable future, and slowing our progress in the race to net zero. While building new infrastructure is one way to speed up grid integration, it's not the only option. We can also harness technology to get more from our existing infrastructure and alleviate some of the time pressure on costly new transmission builds. Using AI and digital modelling, we can hypertarget configuration tweaks to create more headroom for renewable energy using the assets we already have. Want to know how? What do you get when you combine aging electric utility equipment, vegetation, and hot late summer weather? The combination of these three elements significantly raises the likelihood of wildfires, even in areas that historically haven’t been wildfire-prone. Neara’s predictive modeling software simulates wildfire scenarios, allowing utilities to anticipate and address vulnerabilities before they become critical. This way, you can get ahead of every conductor clashing risk, every vegetation encroachment, and conductor sag risk — even the ones that aren’t obvious in the field — before they become live hazards. Discover how to supercharge your wildfire readiness at Neara.com. #WildfireManagement #RiskMitigation #GridResilience
