Groundbreaking news from Tomorrow.io! 🚨 📡 🛰️ Tomorrow.io, the world's leading Resilience Platform™, today announced the successful launch of its first two microwave sounder satellites. This milestone marks a significant advancement for Tomorrow.io in transforming global weather forecasting, early warning systems, and climate resilience. These sounder-equipped satellites mark the next phase in Tomorrow.io's expanding constellation, aiming to provide unprecedented sub-hourly global atmospheric measurements of temperature, humidity, precipitation, and tropical cyclones—a first for the commercial sector. "With our microwave sounders, we can set a new standard in atmospheric data collection and prediction," said Rei Goffer, Co-Founder, and Chief Strategy Officer of Tomorrow.io, "This technology allows us to capture atmospheric data with exceptional accuracy, especially over oceans and remote areas where traditional observations are scarce.” The launch of these satellites comes at a crucial time in the advancement of AI technology. Tomorrow.io's expanding constellation of weather satellites is creating a critical missing link: high-resolution, global data for training and initializing AI models with real-time observations. This data will not only enhance the accuracy of Tomorrow.io's own models but also has the potential to significantly advance the field of weather prediction and climate modeling. This advancement builds upon Tomorrow.io's groundbreaking Pathfinder radar satellites (https://lnkd.in/gTJDzK9A) which launched in 2023 and have demonstrated performance that matches or exceeds NOAA's NEXRAD benchmark for rainfall measurement. (https://lnkd.in/g3PbyUi6) The addition of microwave sounders further expands the company's observational capabilities, with early data showing promising insights. The satellites are now undergoing initial commissioning, with preliminary datasets expected in the coming weeks. Tomorrow.io's sounder technology is derived from NASA’s TROPICS mission, and the company is concurrently set to rebuild NOAA’s digital infrastructure through the Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC) program. The company will continue expanding its constellation, advancing its Resilience Platform™ to address the growing challenges posed by extreme weather and climate change.

As more people return to the office, weather’s impact on daily commutes is impossible to ignore. 🚗🌧️ Michael Huguet, Lead Meteorologist at Tomorrow.io, shares how his role has reshaped his understanding of weather’s effect on everyday life. While working from home means he avoids weather disruptions like ice storms and thunderstorms, Michael helps departments of transportation understand road conditions and mitigate risks for commuters. With so many hazards on the road, he’s become a strong advocate for flexible work options—especially when weather poses a real threat to safety. At Tomorrow.io, we empower businesses to make smarter decisions in the face of weather, keeping people and operations resilient, no matter what the forecast brings. #WeatherIntelligence #ClimateResilience #OperationalAdaptability #TomorrowIo #ResiliencePlatform #CommuterSafety

How can policymakers accelerate the future of weather resilience? 🌍 Last month, Rei Goffer, CSO at Tomorrow.io, was featured on SpaceNews, where he laid out how the government can propel the development of commercial weather satellite constellations. “Launches used to cost the government between half a billion to a billion dollars per satellite to LEO. Now, it’s less than 10% of that. It didn’t happen on its own—it happened because NASA decided to give private companies a shot. The same should happen with weather sensing—take more money from the budget, open up the mission statement, and see what the private sector can do.” Rei also predicts, “I guarantee you that five years from now, we’ll see a 10x improvement in performance relative to what we currently have.” The key? Move beyond traditional government-led approaches to embrace the future of weather data—driven by the private sector. 🚀 Is it time for a new model in satellite development? The future of weather forecasting may depend on it. #WeatherData #CommercialSpace #SatelliteTech #ClimateResilience

DeepSeek’s AI breakthrough carries a powerful lesson, not just for the AI industry but for any field reliant on predictive modeling, including weather and climate. What DeepSeek has revealed is something many people miss: models are commodities, but data is the true differentiator. In the weather industry, we see parallels every day. Big tech and startups alike believe that throwing more AI models at the problem will unlock better forecasting, but the reality is no matter how advanced your AI, it’s only as good as the data feeding it (for both training and for initializing the models). So, while the AI industry debates GPUs and training costs, our real takeaway here, data will always be the ultimate moat. And in industries like weather, where the stakes couldn’t be higher, that moat is what sets leaders apart. The future of forecasting isn’t just about smarter models, it’s also about the data you need. So instead of deploying $ on compute CAPEX and being scared to do the same on data strategy, perhaps we should think about where we invest our money to advance weather forecasting as well as other domains.
