Diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. We need to bring a wealth of perspectives to our work and believe that, in protecting Australia and our way of life, liberal and inclusive values must be central to our mission and our work. Our work requires imagination, vision and unconventional ways of seeing problems and solutions. These depend upon bringing together a wealth of different perspectives, insights and ways of thinking from across cultural and linguistic backgrounds, genders, sexual orientation, age, disability and different forms of neurodiversity. In today's complex and dynamic world, the role of intelligence has never been more crucial. Australia and the United States are steadfast in maintaining a deep and enduring partnership. Andrew Shearer, Director-General of National Intelligence hosted his U.S. counterpart Avril Haines, during her visit to Australia. Together, they toured the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, a testament to our shared history and sacrifices, and our unwavering commitment to global security. In a solemn ceremony, the intelligence chiefs laid wreaths beside the Pool of Reflection, honouring the memory of those who have served. This poignant gesture was observed by members of the graduating class of the Royal Military College Duntroon. The ceremony paid tribute to Private Ishmael Braithwaite, who served Australia in the First World War. His sacrifice, along with those of thousands more, was commemorated by the recitation of the Ode, followed by the sounding of the Last Post. Lest We Forget. Director-General of National Intelligence Andrew Shearer has highlighted the imperative of a whole-of-nation approach to safeguarding Australia’s sovereignty and national security interests, speaking at an event hosted by the United States Studies Centre. DGNI Shearer joined Meghan Quinn PSM (Secretary of the Department of Industry, Science and Resources) and David Frederick PSM (Secretary of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water) in a discussion with Dr Michael Green (United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney), shedding light on how Australian policymakers perceive the shifting geopolitical and economic landscape. DGNI Shearer: “We cannot provide security without bringing in a whole‑of‑nation, not just a whole‑of‑government response. And that means partnering much more proactively with business, building up trusted relationships with business and with our most important international partners.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gzbAU_fq #NationalSecurity #Geopolitics #Australia #IntelligenceCommunity #Partnerships

Excited to share that NSC successfully launched its first executive education program for #APS 5/6 staff, ‘Preparing for a Secure Future’, in Melbourne last week. Participants from various Commonwealth agencies had the opportunity to engage with top-tier practitioners and academics, and share valuable insights. A highlight was a surprise breakfast conversation with DGNI Andrew Shearer. The program received outstanding feedback from the participants for its comprehensive approach and supportive environment. Emphasising the need for preparedness, he noted the importance of expanded military-industrial production and the safeguarding of critical supply chains.
