An important part of enabling Origin to support more Australians on their decarbonisation journey is the collaboration with many different parts of the Australian community – from start-ups, to large commercial organisations, and small local solar installers. Which is why we are at Australia’s largest clean energy event, All Energy Australia, over the next two days talking to attendees about a range of topics including industry innovation, decarbonisation strategies for commercial buildings, Virtual Power Plants, Electric Vehicles and batteries.
About us
Origin is one of Australia's leading energy companies, exploring, generating and delivering energy to over 4 million customer accounts. Our purpose – getting energy right for our customers, communities and planet – drives everything we do. As Australia's largest energy retailer, we have an important role to play in providing electricity, natural gas, solar and LPG to Australian communities and work every day to make energy more affordable, more sustainable, smarter and easier for our customers. We are committed to leading the transition to a cleaner energy future and believe our company, and the energy industry more broadly, should be at the forefront of action to reduce carbon emissions. Origin was the first Australian company to set an emissions reduction target endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – aiming to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions by 2032, as we work towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Through the Origin Energy Foundation, we support programs that use education to help break the cycle of disadvantage and empower young Australians to reach their potential, contributing more than $27 million to support community organisations since 2010. We're proud to be working with Logan City Council to support them on their decarbonisation journey, and look forward to partnering with them on a range of initiatives.
Logan City Council and Origin Energy (Origin) have signed an Australian-first, multi-scope agreement that will help the city move towards Real Zero while supporting the region’s energy grid. The Energy Partnership Agreement will enable Council to reduce its emissions and operating costs. Today we held our 25th Annual General Meeting. The AGM provides an important opportunity each year for shareholders to engage with Board and leadership and hear about the company’s recent performance and outlook. Chair Scott Perkins reflected on Origin’s growth since our first AGM, when Origin served 1.2 million customers, had just over 2,000 employees and a market capitalisation of $750 million. Today, Origin is Australia’s largest energy retailer with 4.7 million customers employs 5,500 people and has a market capitalisation of around $17.5 billion. Origin has made good progress this year on our ambition to lead the energy transition, particularly through a notable step change in our investment in renewables and storage, and is well-positioned to create sustained value for shareholders and deliver good outcomes to our customers, community and planet.

At Origin, we believe in the power of community. That’s why we’re proud to support the Murilla Community Centre in South West QLD in keeping its essential Outside School Hours Care program running. With the help of a sponsorship initiative, skilled international staff are joining the local workforce, ensuring that families in Western Downs can continue to rely on this essential service. #CommunitySupport #LocalImpact

Origin House is taking shape. Construction is now in full swing for The Victorian Homeless Fund project we’re supporting, which is being generously built by the team at Fairhaven Homes. We’re assisting with construction costs, fitting the property with solar panels and will provide free electricity, gas and broadband for 12 months for the family that moves in. We’re talkin’ ‘bout our generation as we go behind-the-scenes at some of our gas generation assets. Exploring how they support renewables entering the market, and meeting the people who run them. Uranquinty Power Station, located 15km southwest of Wagga Wagga in New South Wales, is one of Australia’s largest and most efficient gas-fired peaking power stations. With four open cycle gas turbines, it boasts a generation capacity of 692 megawatts. In this video, Plant Manager Harold takes us behind the scenes to show how he and his small team ensure the plant operates reliably every day to support Australia’s energy demand. #BTS #PowerStation #Uranquinty

We are extremely proud of the work of our Origin Energy Foundation, its partners and our volunteers supporting young people in education and communities around the country. Here is a wrap of FY24.
This year through our strategic review, we recommitted to providing holistic support to our partners through engaged philanthropy – the idea that there is more to bring to problem-solving than money alone. Our FY24 Annual Review, released today, demonstrates how we have applied this philosophy over the past 12 months to support our partners in tackling some of the biggest challenges in education. Read the full review here: https://lnkd.in/gdZuceTE Thank you to our partners, schools, teachers and Origin Energy volunteers for your important work and support. #OriginEnergyFoundation #AnnualReviewFY24 #EngagedPhilanthropy #Education
