  • Students thrive when they have opportunities to participate in projects that align with their interests and skillsets which is why we’re so passionate about programs like the Yadaba Nunthi Program. Year 12 students from Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Glenmore State High Schools are diving into action at Keppel Bay Marina as part of the program, working alongside the Woppaburra Indigenous Land and Sea Rangers to help protect our precious Sea Country. From seagrass surveys for dugong conservation to coral reef health monitoring, students are gaining vital skills in marine conservation through hands-on experience. Now in its second year, the Yadaba Nunthi Program has already supported students to secure roles with Queensland Parks and Wildlife and Indigenous Ranger programs. It’s a great example of young people making a real difference in preserving our environment while embracing cultural and ecological learning. #EducationalPerformance #Conservation #WildlifeConservation

Had the pleasure of visiting the Toohey Forest Environmental Education Centre at Griffith University this week and spending time with the incredibly welcoming School Principal Darren Shepherd and Jennifer Watson. Their passion for connecting students with the natural world through hands-on, curriculum-aligned learning is truly inspiring. From Indigenous cultural education to immersive ecology programs in the heart of the forest, the centre offers such a unique and valuable experience for learners of all ages. The Centre is governed by the Queensland Department of Education (DET), and it was great to see how this partnership with Griffith University delivers high-quality, Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) accredited programs that truly engage students. Thank you both for your time, generosity, and for showing me the amazing work happening here. BlueSky Education looks forward to future collaborations! #GriffithUniversity #DETEducation #EnvironmentalEducation #TooheyForest #STEMeducation #IndigenousEducation #EcoLearning #ACARA

  • Tambourine Mountain State School is home to a group of young hosts who write, record and broadcast a radio show called Schoolyard Sounds. 🎙️ 'I feel that learning these skills for life is actually quite essential,' says student host Cooper. The first of its kind in Australia, the program is making its mark in community broadcasting. Every Wednesday from 2–3pm, Schoolyard Sounds runs on Switch Brisbane radio, covering the students' interests and recent experiences. The project began in 2023, after Switch Brisbane founder Matt Boyd floated the idea with TMSS Principal Jason Smith. Originally founded as a youth station in 1999, Matt was looking to go back to their roots with a youth-led broadcast. Mr Smith was no stranger to radio broadcasting, with years of experience under his belt hosting a show in his university days, followed by work for multiple stations around Christchurch, New Zealand. He currently hosts his own show on Switch Brisbane outside of school hours, Aussie Music Hour with Jace. 'These guys are writing and researching their own segments, creating a buzz around their particular strengths and passions. And that takes time,' says Mr Smith. 'It's one of the best things I've ever volunteered for. It taught me a lot of life skills and it's just a lot of fun,' says Louis. 'I love my segment … I get to learn all these fun facts about the movies I watch, and it's so cool being able to share that with everyone,' says Hannah. 'I just love radio so much because you get to do so many fun experiences …. And I love how it boosts your confidence, it's a really great experience and it's not very often you get to do it, even in your adulthood,' says Olive. Listeners can tune in to previous Schoolyard Sounds episodes on Switch Brisbane: https://lnkd.in/gmeDiGRx

  • Cultural diversity is the foundation of equity in education and learning goes both ways. Our international students teach us, just as we teach them. We’re proud to foster unique and enriching international partnerships like the longstanding sister city relationship between Kobe and Brisbane, established in 1985. The Kobe Brisbane Student Program is a cultural exchange that gives a state high school in Brisbane the opportunity to welcome and host a group of students from a Kobe high school in Japan. This is a reciprocal opportunity, which provides funding for a group of students to then travel to Kobe where they will stay with their buddy and experience Japanese school life at their buddy's high school. Expressions of interest are now open for the fully funded 2026 Kobe Brisbane Student Program.
