It was a blast to spend quality time connecting with our founders at our third ReGen Ventures Global Founders Retreat earlier this month in Napa, California. This event is the pinnacle of our year! We were joined by some incredible speakers including Alex Auerbach Ph.D., MBA and Chip Richards along with Rich Roll. Under the walnut tree Rich sat down with Dan from ReGen to discuss the lessons he’s learnt from interviewing hundreds of leaders who have achieved exceptional performance. Here are a few nuggets of wisdom: ✨ There is clarity in values. And there is power in clarity. Make sure you are aware of how your values manifest in your day to day activities and be aware of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. ✨ It is not self indulgent to serve yourself first. Boundaries and systems of self care help you to build a good relationship with your mind and distance yourself from internal chatter. ✨ You need to be in love with the journey to truly sustain it and succeed in the long run. ✨ Make sure you protect consistency over intensity. Momentum is a product of consistent action. ✨ Try to separate your ego from what you do and the decisions you make. ✨ And finally - Expect to Win! A mantra to live by from Dr Alex Auerbach. Patrick O'Shaughnessy, CFA, (host of Invest Like the Best podcast) interviewing David Senra (host of Founders podcast) on what "Founder Mentality" means, why it shows up again and again in the most successful founders throughout history, and how we all can apply it to our own lives. Key takeaways: Build a business that’s truly natural to you. Truly great entrepreneurs don’t look around they look in. What do you think about when you’re on walks alone- what are you intensely interested in? You can’t be great unless you are intensely interested. What would you do forever, even if you were offered money to stop? We don’t have an epidemic of confidence we have an epidemic of people who never start because of under confidence. Who is the most confident person you know? Act like them until you become them. There is no substitute for effort- generally the bar is low. Are you truely putting in as much effort as you possibly could? ✨ Charlie Munger - the wisest person David knows. ✨ The core of a great founder: Focus. Clarity. The concentration of carbon in the air has reached beyond 420 parts per million (ppm), more than ~48 percent higher than pre-industrial levels. Yet, with hard-to-abate industries unable to drive emissions to net zero any time soon, it will be near impossible to achieve the necessary reduction in peak warming by curbing GHGs alone. In reality, we must also remove billions of tons of atmospheric CO2 annually by 2050 to limit warming to 1.5°C and avoid the worst effects of climate change. Doing so requires an arsenal of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies. In particular, ReGen Ventures is increasingly excited about what we call nature-powered CDR - pathways combining the efficiency of advanced engineering with the resilience of natural systems to remove CO2 permanently, restore the balance between fast and slow carbon cycles, regenerate ecosystems, and support biodiversity. Our portfolio company, Banyu Carbon, exemplifies nature-powered CDR with its sunlight-driven process that removes a pure stream of CO2 from seawater while counteracting ocean acidification. Approaches like Banyu’s, which can generate surplus renewable energy as a byproduct, will become increasingly crucial as engineered CDR pathways, such as direct air capture (DAC), face headwinds when it comes to accessing clean energy due to demand from data centers and AI.
