In his address to the Regional Australia Institute's Regions Rising National Summit last week, Squadron Energy CEO Rob Wheals outlined the expected $68 billion of national economic output from renewables projects in the next six years. "We need to work together to earn trust and invest the time, money and effort to ensure that these opportunities are realised and the benefits are shared across a region," Rob told the Summit. The forum was also an opportunity to have an honest conversation about the cost and timelines for new energy infrastructure. Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has confirmed that building out variable renewable energy generation, backed up by batteries and flexible gas, will deliver the lowest-cost new build energy option for Australia. Rob told the audience that nuclear simply doesn't stack up to meet Australia's energy needs: "If you look at the cost of nuclear, it's five to six times the cost of renewable projects. "Will nuclear be there in time to give us the solution, and will it be done at the lowest cost that is required to support communities and all Australians? I think the answer is no."

Squadron Energy is proud to be a part of this year's Clean Energy Council Careers for Net Zero Roadshow across regional Queensland. It was fantastic to speak with communities in Toowoomba, Gladstone and Townsville about what we do and the exciting opportunities available at Squadron Energy as well as the wider renewables sector. Our own Jasmine Stuart - Graduate Renewables Engineer, spoke on the Champions for Change Panel about her role, what inspired her to work in renewables and advice she'd give to students.

As featured in today’s The Canberra Times, Squadron Energy CEO Rob Wheals writes: “We must put regional communities at the heart of the opportunity and invest not just the money, but also the time, to ensure these once in a generation benefits are realised and shared across the country.” According to research conducted by the Regional Australia Institute, renewable energy projects will create 6,400 full-time equivalent jobs across Australia by 2030. Outside of directly working for renewables companies, there will be another 7,600 jobs in industries like transport and manufacturing and with more people working and living locally – this will create another 5,700 jobs. All up the modelling shows a net gain of almost 20,000 jobs. If we get it right, over decades whole careers can be forged in building the transition in Renewable Energy Zones. But it will take commitment from renewable energy companies to build the pipeline of local skills, as well as local projects. Read the full opinion piece here: https://bit.ly/3X2yUfu

Squadron Energy Chairman Jason Willoughby was pleased to present at RDA Orana's third annual Resources Energy and Industry Innovation Forum in Dubbo today. He told the audience success as we transition to renewable energy isn't necessarily just about the amount of electricity we generate. It's whether at the end of 10 years the community looks back and says we're better off for having these projects, these companies and their people, being part of our community. The Central West Orana is an incredibly important region as we transition to a renewable future and Squadron Energy is committed to the region for the long-term.

We’re a proud partner of the St George Illawarra Dragons and core to this partnership is community. It was great to see almost 19,000 community members backing the Dragon’s men’s and women’s games at WIN Stadium on Sunday. Despite the final scores, the atmosphere was electric with fans cheering the Red V! The men’s team is racing towards the semis— and the women are kicking off what will surely be a killer season - we’re behind them all the way - let’s go Red V! Check out the highlights:

The Illawarra will play a key role in the renewable energy transition, and it was great to visit our Squadron Energy Port Kembla Energy Terminal today, which will be completed this year. The Port Kembla Energy Terminal will prevent forecast gas shortfalls in Australia’s eastern states as well as firm Squadron Energy’s renewable generation. All without the need for new gas fields, that will emit for decades. It can supply enough gas to meet nearly all of NSW’s gas needs on a peak day: a key asset for Australia as we transition to renewable energy. Tattarang

It's National Farm Safety Week and we are shining a light on one of our project landowners Simon McAulay Powell. Simon has been a cattle grazier on his property in Central Queensland for nearly 25 years. "Particularly in terms of bushfire safety, the project’s access roads serve as really effective fire breaks and also make it easier and safer for us to move around the property." #ACES2024 has kicked off in Sydney and our CEO Rob Wheals was pleased to participate in the leaders panel to explore the current state of Australia's energy transition, including the emerging challenges and opportunities for a decarbonised energy sector. We know the transition to renewable energy is well underway and we know now is the time to do the heavy lifting and stay the course. We also know that creating a lasting economic legacy for the regions in which we develop and operate renewable energy assets is just as important as the infrastructure itself. As a sector we must ensure we continue to deliver and improve on our community benefit initiatives that support our communities over the long term. Squadron Energy is also proud to sponsor two female graduates to attend the conference as part of the Clean Energy Council's Women in Renewables Career Launcher initiative, Hannah Cho from Macquarie University and Sara Venkatesan from the University of Queensland.
