Our Technical Director and Principal Safety Engineer - Space, Florian MASSOL attended Aviation/Aerospace Australia's Space Technology, Diversity, and Sustainability Networking Breakfast yesterday in Brisbane. There are some exciting things happening here in Australia. 🚀 iLAuNCH Trailblazer are developing cutting edge AI technology that will fly on the International Space Station to monitor the health of astronauts, with the potential for such technology to be implemented globally to the public. 🚀 ELO2 are developing a rover that can navigate the Moon's harsh conditions and successfully complete its mission. 🚀 General consensus on the panel is that diversity will be a key driver moving forward for the space industry to grow, through implementing conscious leadership, recognising humility, and valuing diverse points of view. Last month's SESA and HF Community of Practice saw Plan Safe’s Florian MASSOL and Rita Coehlo join Think Safe's Trent Dennis to lead a discussion around Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) and its relationship to safety. While sometimes considered a dry topic, the conversation was interesting and engaging, and our participants raised some great points. If you’re a Sydney-based Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance (SESA) or Human Factors (HF) professional, and you’re looking to expand your professional network, join our LinkedIn group here: https://lnkd.in/gdH7zzzQ This group is open to anyone working in a SESA or HF role in the Defence, Transport, Rail, Aviation and Maritime industries.

Some fantastic news for the Queensland rail industry, with the Queensland Government unveiling plans for a new $7.1 million skills and training facility in Maryborough. With a strong focus on upskilling more workers to support the State Government’s significant investment in train manufacturing, this initiative will provide a real boost to employment in the region, supporting 1,300 new jobs. With the rail industry contributing around $30 billion to the Australian economy each year, strong local manufacturing industries are a really positive step forward. With over a decade of experience in the development of complex and high-risk infrastructure, we bring together extensive project, communication and safety methodology to deliver safe rail operations to workers and users. Reach out to our team to discuss your next project. 📞 1300 030 361 📧 info@plansafe.com.au

Last week saw the release of the Aviation White Paper, setting out the Australian Government’s vision for Australia’s aviation sector towards 2050 to ensure it remains safe, competitive, productive and sustainable. It’s an interesting read, and for us here at Plan Safe we were particularly interested to read the initiatives related to Air Traffic Control and uncrewed aircraft, both of which are poised to see both regulatory change and financial investment in the near future. If you’ve had a chance to read the white paper, we’d love to hear your thoughts: did they miss anything? What would you change?

Our team attended the Australian Aviation Summit today in Sydney. This event covered a broad range of topics, including a breakdown of the Aviation White Paper from various perspectives, as well as future workforce planning and sustainability.   The Aviation White Paper sets out the Australian Government’s vision for Australia’s aviation sector towards 2050 to ensure it remains safe, competitive, productive and sustainable.   Speakers included the new Airservices Australia interim CEO, Rob Sharp, discussing the current priorities and future direction for the industry in general, and Airservices specifically. We thoroughly enjoyed working with the team on their User-Preferred Routing and Digital Aerodrome Service projects, and we look forward to continuing to support Airservices' critical projects.   It was also great to hear from our friend and colleague Deborah Lawrie, discussing the challenges of her journey as a pilot and the future diversity challenges in the industry. Both Deb and fellow pilot Lisa Norman believe that quotas are the wrong approach for encouraging diversity in the field, as it can have negative effect on the women in the roles.   We’d love to hear your thoughts – What’s your view on gender quotas when it comes to hiring in the aviation industry?
