At the #AICD Climate Governance Forum 2024, investors emphasised their continued focus to work with boards of companies they invest in to ensure they have an achievable transition strategy in place that aims to shore up the long-term value of a company. From this perspective, Aware Super says they are having more success in driving transition among their private company investments when compared with their listed investments. Embedding climate change strategy into the overall corporate strategy continues to be a huge issue for boards. And vital for investors in those companies.

At The Action Exchange, our tagline is 'turn ideas into action.' So - naturally - I get unbelievably excited when our work leads to real-world impact. #BacktoBlue is a brilliant initiative of Economist Impact and The Nippon Foundation to address #ocean #pollution, and one I have been working on for the past 3+ years. Now, the IOC UNESCO Ocean and UN Environment Programme have agreed to develop an implementation plan for turning Back to Blue's recommendations into reality. The IOC is inviting written proposals for a consultant to work on this exciting project. Hurry - applications close at the end of this week. Details here: https://lnkd.in/gTwsddkX
Could you help turn Back to Blue's vision into reality? Back to Blue (an initiative of Economist Impact and The Nippon Foundation) published ‘A global ocean free from the harmful impacts of pollution: Roadmap for action', in March at the World Ocean Summit. The roadmap is a strategic framework to build a comprehensive evidence base to tackle ocean pollution collectively. Now, the IOC UNESCO Ocean and UN Environment Programme Secretariats aim to develop an implementation plan for the Roadmap. The IOC is inviting written proposals for an individual consultant to work on this project. The consultant will work under the supervision of Henrik Enevoldsen. Applications close August 25th. https://lnkd.in/g4SmAhDj

Great article on the shift towards #naturepositive #investment in the The Australian Financial Review, with a focus on #food and #agriculture. This is one of our favourite topics at The Action Exchange. 🌳 In 2023, we published 'Building Biodiversity: Australian Nature Credit Markets Beyond the TNFD,' in partnership with Clayton Utz (led by partner Claire Smith). See: https://lnkd.in/gcHuR7vT 🌳 More recently, we authored a series of interviews with Australian agribusiness leaders Prue Bondfield and Carolyn Hall of the Mulloon Institute about the shift to nature-positive investing. The Action Exchange was proud to support Asialink Business to produce a new guide for Australian businesses expanding into Singapore. Not only is Singapore one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic economies, it is a home away from home for some of our team and we loved learning more about its role in the region. We love to see our work create real world impact. The Action Exchange has been working with Back to Blue for more than three years now, developing a roadmap that sets out an ambitious framework to address ocean pollution. Last week, Back to Blue presented the roadmap to the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission's Executive Council meeting in Paris, outlining how to move the roadmap from idea to action.
It was great to be at the lovely UNESCO headquarters in Paris this week, presenting Back to Blue's roadmap to address ocean pollution at the IOC Executive Council meeting. Thank you Vidar Helgesen and Henrik Enevoldsen for hosting such a productive meeting. Economist Impact Naka Kondo The Nippon Foundation

Decarbonising transport will be a critical step towards achieving net zero emissions. For companies where fleets are a core part of operations, transitioning from conventional internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles will be equally essential to reduce their potential environmental, social and governance risks and costs. The Action Exchange worked with The Australian Financial Review and LDV Automotive Australia to create a new report, 'Transition drivers Navigating an electric fleet future,' published today. At the The Australian Financial Review #AI Summit this week, Business Council of Australia chief Bran Black called for regulation of the technology that is flexible, evidence-based and doesn't unnecessarily deter business from adopting AI. Stephen King of the Productivity Commission agreed, warning that poorly thought-out regulation could strangle the potential productivity gains from AI. He called on regulators such as ASIC and the ACCC to publish guidance for businesses on how existing regulation applies to AI. The Action Exchange recently supported CPA Ontario's #thoughtleadership project exploring the #governance challenges and opportunities for #finance professionals in the age of AI. It found that standards setters have a unique opportunity to help shape the architecture of trust in AI systems. Read the full report, or get in touch to learn more. https://lnkd.in/g3HwfbBT

Australian governments, regulators and industry have adopted a new attitude of '#netzero exceptionalism' over the past 12 months. This has facilitated new tranches of funding, incentivised private #investment, enabled regulatory approvals and given rise to policies that lag in other sectors of the economy. At a time when capital and supply constraints are thwarting Australian #infrastructure projects, this new approach will be increasingly important to mobilise the international capital and resources needed to accelerate the country’s #energy transition. We partnered with Clayton Utz to examine the topic. Read the full report. https://lnkd.in/gWpMrk3g
