The first guide dog ever to come to Australia lived in Perth, and her name was Dreena! 🐕🦺 Dreena, a black Labrador retriever, belonged to The University of Western Australia Economics Professor Arnold Cook. In 1951, Arnold initiated Australia’s first guide dog training centre, the Guide Dogs of the Blind Association. This organisation evolved into Guide Dogs WA, which has served millions of people. By 1957, WA had led the way, and there was a Guide Dog Association in every state of Australia. 🙌🐾

  • Djilba brings a mix of wet and dry conditions, wildflowers, and new life. We've put together some activities that families and teams can do this Djilba season from August through to September: 🌳Less than a 2-hour drive from Perth, take a scenic hike through Dwellingup State Forest to see blooming wildflowers and impressively tall Jarrah trees, a nice escape from the city. 🧘Connect to country with Yoga at the WA Museum on Sunday 8 September. The practice and soundscapes will align with the Djilba season, reflecting what's occurring in nature. 🐦 Head down to Kings Park and Botanic Garden in the morning to see some of our woodland birds nesting amongst the Banksia. 🌞Book a cultural tour in the South West and be immersed in the world’s oldest living culture with an authentic, personal experience of Indigenous culture.
