  • A Sustainable Model for Mining WGA has been engaged by a major Australian gold mine to assist with expansion of its tailings storage capacity to address groundwater buildup under the existing tailings storage facility (TSF). The project, currently near completion of detailed design, involves the development of an in-pit tailings storage facility and the construction of nearly six kilometres of dual pipeline. One pipeline will transport tailings to the pit, while the other will return decant water, forming a closed-loop system that maximises water stewardship. Ensuring efficient operation with minimal environmental impact, our team are providing civil, structural, mechanical and piping engineering design services for the booster pump station, tailings and decant pipelines, pipeline corridor and the decant return system. Environmental considerations have been integral to the design, featuring earth bunds and a pipe-in-pipe containment system below roads to contain spills. Additionally, most of the pipeline was kept above ground to minimise landscape disruption and facilitate easier maintenance, thereby protecting the environment and reducing energy consumption. • We are celebrating our outstanding Senior Associates, and next up, meet Russell Martin! With 35-plus years in the business, Russell is an internationally renowned expert in Hydrogeology, particularly in Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR). His passion for MAR is driven by the knowledge that it provides a method to deliver sustainable benefits to people and ecosystems dependent on groundwater. As an added bonus, delivery of successful MAR systems are challenging, combining the best of science and engineering. He is regularly engaged to deliver training courses and speak on MAR systems at conferences worldwide. Russell’s colleagues describe him as “a rockstar of the hydrogeological world” and note that at conferences, he’s the person everyone wants to meet. Alongside his globally recognised knowledge of MAR systems, Russell also possesses a detailed knowledge of issues affecting groundwater supplies across Australia. Recognising a need for a succession plan, he has been instrumental in recruitment and mentoring to ensure that WGA’s hydrogeological expertise is well positioned for the future. Congratulations Russell! we are delighted to recognise you as a Senior Associate. #theplacetobe #Engineers #Leadership #SouthAustralia

  • 83 Pirie Street: South Australia’s Development of the Year! We are proud to have played a crucial role in the award-winning development at 83 Pirie Street, recently named South Australia’s Development of the Year by the Property Council of Australia! WGA were involved from the early stages, starting with concept design and design development, and collaborating closely with Cbus Property, and project architect, Woods Bagot. Working together, we progressed the design to the tender phase, where Multiplex was appointed for the construction delivery. Our team partnered closely with Multiplex, ensuring the project was delivered with sustainability in mind, on budget and ahead of its scheduled completion date. This 22-storey office tower now stands as a landmark in Adelaide’s CBD, and indicates how the power of strong partnerships, unified teams and innovation can create such exceptional spaces. Congratulations to Cbus Property, Woods Bagot, and everyone involved in this outstanding achievement. We look forward to seeing 83 Pirie Street compete for the Australian Development of the Year this week! • Elevating Sustainability: The Limestone Coast Hydrogen Initiative! We’re thrilled to announce the completion of the entX Limited Limestone Coast Hydrogen Hub (LCH2) Project Feasibility Study! The LCH2 aims to provide a supply of renewable hydrogen to Australia's tissue manufacturer, Kimberly-Clark Australia Millicent Mill to support sustainable manufacturing. WGA in collaboration with BOC South Pacific were engaged by entX to complete the Feasibility Study on the LCH2 itself, and the integration of hydrogen in the Millicent Mill’s operations.     Through the development of a techno-economic model, the team were able to trade-off capital against operating expenditure to optimise the generation capacity, utilisation and storage capacity and plant configuration.  The development of the feasibility level design allowed refinement of the economic model to support an Initial Investment Decision on progressing to Front-End Engineering Design.     WGA was able to leverage our expertise in hydrogen with an established pedigree in complex, brown-fields, industrial integration to deliver a comprehensive approach to the balance of plant and Mill augmentation designs.     The industrial decarbonisation application for renewable hydrogen is an exciting space and we are eager to see how entX progresses with the next phase of project development!     Need help with your next project? • The wait is over, and the Crows have a new home! After years of anticipation, the Adelaide Football Club's dream of a world-class headquarters is finally taking shape. The Crows have secured a prime lease from the City of West Torrens, paving the way for a $100 million state-of-the-art facility. Chairman John Olsen said: “We are full steam ahead and intend to start works on the site towards the end of the year. We are building a home befitting of the biggest sporting club in the State.” The new facility, a sleek, two-story building wrapping around Thebarton Oval, will be a centrepiece of the Adelaide sporting landscape - and WGA is thrilled to be part of the action providing civil and structural engineering to bring this vision to life. The redevelopment of Thebarton Oval will match Adelaide Oval in size and orientation, featuring a new seating bowl, upgraded amenities, and a second training oval at Kings Reserve. At the heart of the facility will be the Training and Administration Facility (TAF). This modern complex will house indoor training areas, change rooms, offices, aquatic facilities, and game-day support. But it's not just for the players. A public dining venue, function centre, museum, and club shop will offer fans an immersive experience. Due for completion in 2026 this new facility will set a new standard for success in Australian football. #buildingnewfutures #sportsandrecreation #southaustralia #civil #strucutral #engineering
