Transforming Communities with Sustainability at Ferrars Street Precinct! This project is the epitome of integrated community infrastructure located in Fisherman's Bend, Melbourne. It is home to the cities first vertical primary school and offers shared facilities that enhance accessibility and connectivity for the community. Adjacent to South Melbourne Primary School, Kirrip Park provides increased community space in a traditionally commercial and industrial area. By demolishing an existing building and designing for partial road closure, WGA helped create a dynamic, community-focused environment. Working with the City of Port Phillip, Hayball Architects engaged WGA to deliver the streetscape and park, providing civil engineering design and extensive stormwater design. Sustainability was at the core of our design. New roads and pavements were designed to drain into water-sensitive urban design rain gardens and swales, passively irrigating the landscape while improving water quality before runoff reached the Yarra River. The school's building finish floor level was set higher than the existing ground to protect against future flooding from climate change and sea level rise. Kirrip Park has redefined the area's green footprint. Increasing open space from less than 10% to over 80%! By addressing the site's complex challenges with smarter solutions, the site will serve Fisherman's Bend for generations to come. Want to know more about this project? G is for Groundwater – and Girls!   A couple of our superstar Hydrogeologists in New Zealand shared their expertise during a presentation last night at the Australasian Land & Groundwater Association (ALGA)’s Waikato branch. WGA’s own Clare Houlbrooke and Catherine Howell joined their fellow female hydrogeologists in an insightful talk about all things groundwater. Clare and Catherine presented on shallow groundwater conditions in the Waikato and shared some of the examples they have worked on, including the Rotokauri Greenway project. Northern Star Resources Limited's Jundee gold mine is an underground mining operation located in the Northern Goldfields region in Western Australia, approximately 520km north of Kalgoorlie. In collaboration with Zenith Energy, WGA provided civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering to install four wind turbines at the Goldfields northeast of Wiluna to help the mine decarbonise its operations. Our team procured geotechnical investigations, survey works and completed the design in-house. The project progressed smoothly through the design phase, during which our teams implemented their unique wind turbine foundation design, which contributed significantly to the project. The completed wind farm contributes to a hybrid renewable energy solution combining wind energy, solar power and the existing gas power station to provide reliable and continuous energy to the mine operations. This reduces its reliance on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions by up to 56%. With the project complete as of late 2024, there are now four Goldwind 6MW turbines, a 17MW solar farm, and 12MW 13.4 MWh battery energy storage system, making this Australia's most inland windfarm! Throughout her career, Vicky has excelled in financial planning and analysis, forecasting, financial reporting, strategic planning, execution, and risk management. She has a proven track record of driving operational efficiencies, collaborating with specialist partners, and leading high-performing teams. She is renowned for her ability to present complex financial information in a clear and accessible manner to non-financial professionals, making her an effective leader and communicator. 2025 will mark 30 years since the United Nations set a bold vision with The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action - a trailblazing blueprint to achieve equal rights for ALL women and girls.
