Ian Lomas, Director and Chair of Woods Bagot's Los Angeles studio, is a judge for this year's prestigious World Architecture Festival (WAF) which comes as no surprise given his extensive experience and award-winning projects. In the last few years, Ian represented and received awards for Sydney’s Meadowbank Public Schools for the Best Schools category and Best Use of Color. The Inside World Festival of Interiors, a companion program to the main event, also honored the M&C Saatchi Headquarters with the Best Large Workplace award. As Ian recalls, "it just shows the power of an idea.” You can take a peak at the innovative projects from around the world that Ian will be evaluating at this year’s festival taking place November 6-8 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore: https://bit.ly/3A8R9XU Congratulations and best of luck to all the shortlisted entrants! #woodsbagot #peoplearchitecture #waf2024 #jury

Standing at 67 stories high, 180 George Street is one of the tallest residential developments in Western Sydney. Designed for Meriton after winning a City of Parramatta design excellence competition, the mixed-use development carefully considers its close connection to the river’s edge as well as the local community. Composed to achieve maximum residential amenity and most compelling views, the project’s dual towers form an integral part of city’s northern skyline. As functional as they are elegant, the towers incorporate several technological advancements that address the challenges of height and environmental impact. We spoke to Principal Jason Fraser about the project’s journey – read the more on the Woods Bagot website: https://bit.ly/3UdxD3q Photography by Chris Cook. #woodsbagot #peoplearchitecture #talltowers

I’m filled with hope by the creativity of researchers and the lateral way they approach issues like climate change." A government-appointed panel has approved resource consent to construct a new luxury hotel in Queenstown, New Zealand. Designed by Woods Bagot, the hotel is an initiative of The Queenstown Hotel Limited Partnership in response to a demand for luxury accommodation within the renowned international tourism destination. The architectural design comprises five interconnected pavilions, each oriented to capture framed views of the landscape, including panoramic views over Lake Whakatipu and The Remarkables mountain range. Broken into smaller, human-scaled elements, the purpose-built pavilions are carefully placed to follow the natural lay of the land, maximising the planning envelope while remaining sympathetic to its surrounds. “Designed to harmonise with the historic scale of Queenstown’s urban fabric, the project is conceived as a ‘township of rooms,’ with each room oriented to capture framed views of the surrounding landscape," says Woods Bagot Director Domenic Alvaro.
