However, climate change presents a double-edged sword â offering opportunities, but also posing serious threats through extreme weather events like droughts and floods. A recent study by the University of GdaÅsk, conducted as part of the ððððððð ð©ð«ðšð£ððð, sheds light on how resilient IWT systems across Europe truly are. Analysing operational data from 2007 to 2022, the findings reveal how climate change has affected the reliability and performance of inland waterway transport in different countries: â ððððð¥ð ðšð« ð¢ðŠð©ð«ðšð¯ðð ððð ð«ðð¥ð¢ððð¢ð¥ð¢ðð² in Belgium, Romania, and Bulgaria â ïž ðððð¥ð¢ð§ð¢ð§ð ððð ð©ðð«ððšð«ðŠðð§ðð in the Netherlands and Austria ð ððšððð«ððð ðð¥ð¢ðŠððð-ð«ðð¥ðððð ð¢ðŠð©ððð ðšð§ ððð in France, Germany, and Hungary  These insights highlight the need for strategic action to keep IWT a competitive, low-emission transport mode. That includes: ð§ Investment in waterway infrastructure and digital monitoring ð Policy incentives for increasing the use of IWT and climate resilience ð€ Cross-sector collaboration to drive innovation for better integration of IWT solutions in logistics chains. The CRISTAL Project, funded by the European Commission, is leading efforts to improve IWT resilience â ðð¢ðŠð¢ð§ð ððšð« ðð% ð¬ðð«ð¯ð¢ðð ð«ðð¥ð¢ððð¢ð¥ð¢ðð² ðð®ð«ð¢ð§ð ðð±ðð«ððŠð ð°ðððð¡ðð« ðð§ð ð ðð% ð¢ð§ðð«ððð¬ð ð¢ð§ ðŠðð«ð€ðð ð¬ð¡ðð«ð ðð² ðððð. ð ððšð°ð§ð¥ðšðð ðð¡ð ð¬ðð¢ðð§ðð¢ðð¢ð ð©ðð©ðð« (ð¢ð§ ððšð¥ð¢ð¬ð¡): https://lnkd.in/ePFwdvAi #CRISTALproject #ClimateChange #SustainableLogistics #LogisticsInnovation #InnovationInTransport
