On July 24, Smart Freight Centre India successfully organized a workshop on “𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐙𝐄𝐓 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞” at Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai. This event was a continuation of our efforts under NITI Aayog’s 𝐞-𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐓 program and aimed to investigate further on strategic levers to activate a top notch Zero Emission Trucks (ZET) ecosystem in India, with a spotlight on operational barriers for scaled ZET adoption. 🗝 Some of the key takeaways coming out of the workshop and panel discussion were: 💠 Optimize investments by deploying infrastructure along high-traffic corridors. 💠 Collaborate to aggregate demand and de-risk clean energy charging infrastructure. 💠 Ensure user safety, accessibility, and minimal land impact in development. 💠 Collaboration among freight ecosystem stakeholders is key to transitioning from ICE to electrification. 💠 Innovation in battery technologies to address the charging time and range issues will have a transformation impact on adoption. Swapping with standardization of batteries across OEM models may work well as a solution to concerns related to battery cost and performance. 💠 Proactive OEM and top management participation in ZET pilots is awaited with a clear view on upcoming models with timelines. 💠 Use blended finance to mitigate risks and offer dedicated loan products with OEM partnerships. Social and environmental value considerations into financing decisions. 💠 Longer shipper-LSP service contracts to boost financial institutions’ confidence. 💠 Policy support needed for incentivizing adoption and economic viability: standardized price for charging, toll waiver, GVW relaxation, upskilling and re-skilling programs. 💠 Streamline standards and permits with governments for resilient and accessible infrastructure. 💠 Invest in workforce training for a zero-emission economy. Driver training significantly impacts ZET range and utilization. 💠 Engage communities and educational institutions for talent development, research and knowledge building. We plan to leverage the momentum gained so far to translate the vision for decarbonization and the strong demand for transitioning to electric trucks. More information from the Mumbai workshop to follow with similar thematic workshops coming soon in other cities across India. 📢 The transport sector is facing a challenge in meeting increased demand while reducing carbon dioxide emissions. 🚛 While the transport sector accounts for almost a quarter of the global-energy related CO2 emissions, according to the International Panel on Climate Change, Smart Freight Centre has helped businesses reduce 9.3 million tonnes of CO2 since 2017.  📈 To achieve this goal, in 2023 alone, Smart Freight Centre:  - Set up two new global programs (Clean Air Transport & the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative) - Set up a new regional office in India - Convened two new communities (the Book & Claim Community and the Fleet Electrification Coalition) - Published and (co-) authored over 16 new publications - Trained 75 people and approximately 20 companies in Sustainable Logistics - Trained 89 people and approximately 15 companies in GLEC & ISO 14083 Calculation   🌿 As the climate change landscape becomes more pressing for change, Smart Freight Centre becomes more ambitious in effecting profound positive change.     ➡️ To read more about our efforts in the past year to decarbonize the freight logistics sector, read our Annual Report 2023: https://bit.ly/3RZdgps To stay updated on new developments, check out our website: https://lnkd.in/dHCsv6v #SmartFreightCentre #AnnualReport #DecarbonizingLogistics #ClimateAction #SustainableLogistics #Logistics #Decarbonization

It is our pleasure to announce the panel of speakers for our upcoming workshop “𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐙𝐄𝐓 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚t 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞” on July 24 at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai. This event is a part of our ongoing efforts under NITI Aayog’s e-FAST program and aims to investigate further on levers to activate an exceptional Zero Emission Trucks (ZET) ecosystem in India. Our distinguished speakers will join us for a panel discussion on ‘𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐙𝐄𝐓 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞’ to deliberate upon potential pathways to address specific barriers across finance, technology, operations and policy for driving ZET deployment at scale. SFC India recognizes the crucial need to foster ecosystem development through collaborative efforts to advance large-scale ZET deployment projects and, through this workshop, aims to unite key stakeholders in the Indian freight industry—including the government, shippers, logistics service providers (LSPs), carriers, financial institutions, energy infrastructure providers, and charge point operators—in a collective effort to drive this project forward.
