Double recognition for DEME at the 2024 Brownfield Awards! Our Environmental team secured two top spots at yesterday’s awards ceremony in Manchester. 🥇 First place: “Special 20th Anniversary Award for Most Significant UK Remediation or Regeneration Project” for the Avenue Coking Works in Chesterfield, once one of Europe’s most contaminated sites. The scale and complexity of the remediation works were unprecedented. By using advanced remediation techniques, DEME and its partners transformed this site into a safe and vibrant space for people to live and work. 🥈 Second place: “Best Project Preparatory Work” for the remediation of the Bowling oil terminal in Scotland, in partnership with ExxonMobil, the West Dunbartonshire Council, and WSP. Early contractor involvement allowed the team to develop a forward-thinking remediation strategy to address significant hydrocarbon contamination while aligning with client expectations and regulatory requirements. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to delivering these transformative projects! #BrownfieldAwards Brownfield and Regeneration Network #award #remediation #brownfield

Royal opening of Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen! A monumental moment today as King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and King Philippe of Belgium officially inaugurated the Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen (New Lock Terneuzen) in the Netherlands. From aboard a vessel, the Kings signaled the first ship - a bulk carrier - to sail through the lock, marking the completion of this ambitious construction project. The Nieuwe Sluis enhances access from the Westerschelde to the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, providing a major economic boost to both the Netherlands and Belgium. It also plays a critical role in European inland shipping, with ongoing efforts to strengthen the Seine and Scheldt connections. We are very proud that DEME played a key role in the construction as part of the SASSEVAART consortium, combining our expertise in dredging, marine infrastructure, and environmental remediation, all backed by our diverse fleet of vessels and equipment. Some facts about the lock: 🔹 427 m long, 55 m wide, and 16.44 m deep 🔹 Can accommodate vessels up to 366 m long, 49 m wide, and 14.5 m draft 🔹 11.5 million m³ of soil excavated – about 100 times the volume of De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam 🔹 60,000 tonnes of steel used in the construction A massive thank you to all teams involved for their hard work and collaboration in making this landmark project a reality! #nieuwesluisterneuzen #lock #dredging #infra #environmental #terneuzen #gent #zeeland #maritimetrade Vlaams-Nederlandse Scheldecommissie Rijkswaterstaat Departement Mobiliteit en Openbare Werken 🎥 Watch the video of the construction: https://lnkd.in/eYXwwBEh 📷 Spot our cutter suction dredger 'Amazone' in one of the pictures taken at the Nieuwe Sluis complex during the works.

Recently, we kicked off a dredging project at the Port of Patimban in West Java, Indonesia. We are carrying out dredging operations to deepen the port’s access channel. This project represents a key milestone for DEME and our team in Indonesia, particularly following the reflagging of our trailing suction hopper dredger ‘Brabo’ to the Indonesian flag. We are also excited to be training a dedicated Indonesian crew, fostering the exchange of knowledge and expertise between our experienced team and the new crew. Patimban is a port development initiated by the Indonesian government, with financial backing from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The port is set to drive economic growth in the region and bolster Indonesia’s role in global maritime trade. #dredging #indonesia #patimban #brabo #portdevelopment #maritimetrade

Introducing ‘Ivy’, the newest member of the marine fleet for the Fehmarnbelt tunnel project! Specifically designed for the transport and immersion of the project's 89 massive tunnel elements, 'Ivy' consists of two custom-built immersion pontoons. Some specifications: 📏Length: 100 metres ↔️ Width: 45 metres 🏋️ Lifting capacity: 8,000 tonnes ⚙️ Winches: 66 👷♂️ Crew capacity: 22 As we complete final commissioning and offshore trials, ‘Ivy’ will be finetuned to ensure it’s fully prepared for the immersion phase. This is a particularly exciting milestone for the DEME colleagues on the project, as we take a key role in the marine operations within the broader Femern Link Contractors (FLC) team working on the tunnel. In total, four custom-built pontoons will play a crucial part in the tunnel's construction. Earlier this year, the multipurpose pontoon ‘Maya’ joined the marine fleet to install the gravel bed in the tunnel trench. Special element number one, you're a spectacular sight! 😲 Congratulations to the Femern Link Contractors (FLC) team on another really big milestone!

First special element pushed ✨   The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel by FLC for Femern A/S is built of 79 standard tunnel elements and 10 special elements. 🚧 The first of the 10 special elements is fully cast and ready to be pushed from the casting area to the upper basin of the Work Harbour. 🤩 But moving a concrete colossus of 24,000 tons is no small feat. 🤔 Two large pushers with two pistons each gently shoved the element towards the destination at a speed of 13 meters per hour. ⏳ After 12 hours, the journey is completed and the proud team of FLC employees could see many years of effort bear fruit. 🥳💪 The special element now rests in the upper basin. Here, it will be readied to be picked up by the Immersion Pontoon and set sail for the tunnel trench.   💡 Facts: ⚠The special elements weigh 24,000 tons (a standard element weighs 73,000 tons). 🛠All the technical equipment of the tunnel will be placed in the special elements (water, ventilation, electricity etc.) 📏The special elements are shorter than the standard elements, but they are 5 meters wider to make room for a lay-by with elevators in one of the motorway tubes and 4 meters higher due to the basement with room for the equipment. 🚆 There will be a special element for every 2,5 kilometers in the tunnel #Femernbelt #Femernproject #FLC Sund & Bælt Holding A/S VINCI Construction Grands Projets Per Aarsleff A/S Firmengruppe Max Bögl BAM Infra Nederland Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG Soletanche Bachy CFE DEME Group

Friday 20 September World Cleanup Day took place, and we’re really proud to confirm that many of our colleagues once again joined this global movement for a cleaner planet. A significant number of volunteers from many different DEME departments rolled up their sleeves and put in a big shift during which they cleaned up litter from nearby beaches, project sites, and neighbouring areas. By coming together in such a way, we believe we can really make a difference in our communities and beyond. Through participating in World Cleanup Day, DEME wants to reaffirm its clear commitment to the concepts of sustainability and environmental responsibility. The huge collective effort made by everyone who got involved is clear proof of our determination to create a cleaner and healthier planet for future generations. A big shout out to our fantastic DEME volunteers – thank you all so much! #DEMEGroup #WorldCleanupDay2024
