🛣️ The EU is still at the beginning of a real transition to a #CircularEconomy. To truly put a stop to the take/make/use/dispose economy we need robust policies that will help to #reuse resources, reduce their use, and extend their lifetime - shifting the focus from extraction to regeneration. 🌳 #Recycling on its own will not be enough. We need to substantially limit our production and consumption and change the established patterns if we are to reduce the mounting pressure on natural ecosystems. 🔄 By designing systems that reduce resource use, prolong product lifespans, and promote reuse and #repair, the circular economy (with solid targets), offers part of the solution for reducing material footprints. 📄 In our paper we outline the steps needed for the new Circular Economy Act to deliver: https://lnkd.in/eSfg-9xb

Critical raw materials can either underpin or undermine our future – which will it be ❓ #CRMs are the lifeblood of modern industries, powering everything from renewables, telecommunications, and defence to electronics. ⛏️ But growing demand exacerbates the heavy environmental and social burdens. Standards can help, but only if they prioritise environmental protection and include the voices of civil society and Indigenous Peoples’ groups – and that is not straightforward. ✊ That’s why we’re leading the charge for #standards to improve #CRM supply chains! 📢 Join our new coalition to contribute. ✍️ Read our new blog to find out more – link in the comments 👇

ECOS reposted this
We’re happy to announce another new member of our coalition: ECOS! Joining our strong roster of international members, ECOS is an NGO with a network of members and experts who develop environmentally friendly technical standards, policies and laws. “Times are changing and people are waking up to the pollution, dirt and inefficiency of gas compared to modern induction cookers,” ECOS Programme Manager Marco Grippa says. “In recent years, the production of newer induction technology has grown and prices have fallen. With cash savings to be made across much of Europe now or in the coming years, the end is clearly in sight for gas cookers.” Welcome to the Coalition, ECOS! #thefutureiselectric

We are in Nairobi this week, hosting a two-day workshop with local technical experts, #environment protection agencies, and national standards bodies to discuss #plastics reduction and management in East and West Africa. We’re working with local partners in Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria on #plastic reduction and plastic management to collaboratively explore how #standards on material circularity, #biodegradation, and compostability can support #PlasticManagement policy and regulation in East and West Africa. This event is part of our project, where we take a deep dive on policies and standards, including on biodegradation and #compostability, to support National Management Authorities. We look forward to continuing the discussions tomorrow with our workshop participants! This project has been made possible by financial support and collaboration from The SMEP Programme under UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. We are also grateful for additional support from our project partners ISO - International Organization for Standardization and ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna.

🥡 We've been in Thailand this week discussing how to reduce #SingleUse #plastic in street food markets. Mathias Falkenberg, Programme Manager was in Khon Khaen speaking at a workshop hosted by the Mekong Institute, our project parter. Discussions from the workshop will support the development of practical guidelines for Khon Kaen’s markets, with potential to expand to other municipalities. The guidelines will be shared with provincial authorities to support local policy implementation and broader adoption of SUP reduction strategies. #SingleUsePlastic

Standards play a crucial role in the certification and labelling of bio-based products for consumers. In this interview, our Programme Manager, Margaux Le Gallou (she/her), sheds light on the challenges Label and Certification Schemes (LCS) face in reaching consumers. She also highlights how well-structured LCS can effectively combat greenwashing with a clear and trustworthy label! Read the full interview: https://lnkd.in/ei8NeciE #biobased #biosmass #greenwashing #3COProject
Standards are exceptionally relevant for #Certification and #Labelling of BioBased products that target consumers. In this interview of the #HorizonEU #3COProject, Margaux Le Gallou (she/her) from ECOS explains the difficulties for label and certification schemes (LCS) when addressing #consumers. She elaborates on how concise LCS can prevent #GreenWashing of unsustainable products and how a concise label should be designed. Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/exdGcJfq The key objective of the project 3-CO (Concise Consumer Communication through Robust Labels for Biobased Systems) is to support sustainable consumption and improve consumer behaviour through smart digital solutions and guidelines for Labelling and Certification Scheme holders. 3-CO will therefore develop and demonstrate the viability of a supportive framework for LCS on Business-to-Consumers (#B2C) communication for industrial bio-based products, and will publish guidelines for label development. The recommendations and guidelines will be varified in ten different value chains, which were selected based on their relevance.
