Last Friday, during the ACT (Alumni Coaching Team) Lunch Review, we started with a brief catch-up before discussing insights from the recent #EIILMasterclasses. Our ACT teams then prepared to serve as moderators for the upcoming #EIILConference, ‘Leading an Increasingly Connected Generation,’ set to take place on October 24th. This is a valuable experience for EIIL alumni, allowing them to practice leadership and meeting facilitation skills that they can apply in their daily work. Throughout the year, ACT participated in individual cycles of our masterclasses, with their observations being reviewed and discussed every other Friday with senior coaches and a community of like-minded, self-driven learners in our lunchtime Coaching Club.

Last Tuesday, we hosted the Alumni Open House (AOH), where our EIIL alumni had a great time catching up with each other. We also dived into a thoughtful discussion on one of the essential characteristics of a good leader, 'Self-Improvement Orientation'. In sport it's easy to see that you need to develop your own skills, so you can help your team to win games and trophies. As a musician it's easy to see that you need to develop your own skills in order that people listen to your performances or so you can just play along with friends. In industry its harder to see the direct personal benefit from developing your team-leading skills. Organisations and companies can do well as a result, but there are few trophies or medals for the effective team leader. But the successful industry leaders we know have all been passionate about developing their own skills so that the teams they lead, or work in, are more effective than others. There may not be many gold medals, but leaders usually derive great personal satisfaction from their team's performance. Almost certainly they are clear on their own personal career Aims and can make the link. Are our alumni as clear? A huge thank you to everyone who participated! If you're an EIIL alumni, don’t miss the next AOH on the 12th of November. Join us for more engaging discussions and valuable insights!

Last week, EIIL Executive Director Steven Price and Air Liquide Alumni Peter Craeghs visited Covestro's headquarters in Leverkusen, Germany to join host Hanno Bruemmer, Chairman of the Industry Advisory Board (IAB); and Arnd Becker, Covestro's representative on the Leadership Directors Board (LDB) to kick off the first portfolio review of the EIIL's masterclass programme since the pandemic. A survey of Covestro alumni by Andreas Gasper formed a significant input to the process, and we agreed to extend the survey to the wider alumni community. If you're an EIIL alumni and would like to get involved, stay tuned—we’ll be sharing a survey link related to this topic soon! A heartfelt thank you to Covestro for hosting us, and to all participants for their insightful and constructive discussions.
