We are delighted to welcome the European patient advocacy group (ePAG) of ERN GUARD-Heart, the European Reference Network for rare heart diseases, as the newest Partner of EACH! 😀   ERN GUARD-Heart was founded in 2017 as one of 26 European Reference Networks for rare diseases. Its mission is to facilitate access to diagnosis and treatment of rare and complex diseases of the heart in patients across the EU.   The ePAG will bring in the rare heart disease patient perspective in our alliance and point out the unmet needs of those patients.   Let's continue to work together and strive for a European Cardiovascular Health Plan. 💓   #CVD #CVHealthForAll

Today the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen unveiled her new College of Commissioners and put forward Mr. Olivér Várhelyi as the Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare. At EACH, we welcome the inclusion of #CVD in her Mission Letter to Commissioner-Designate Várhelyi. CVD remains the biggest killer of men and women in the EU today, and the time to act is now. During yesterday's exchange of views in the European Parliament Sub-Committee on Public Health (SANT), MEP Tomislav Sokol took the floor and reiterated once more that the time to prioritize #CardiovascularHealth is now. 👏 ❤️ #CVD is the biggest killer of men and women in the EU, and only with a well-funded plan, we can make real progress in combating it. #CVHealthForAll

🚨 ESC Cardiovascular Realities 2024: A Call to Action 🚨 I am proud to announce the release of the #ESC Cardiovascular Realities 2024, an indispensable publication that lays bare the stark realities of #cardiovascular diseases (#CVD) —number one killer. As one of the contributors, I want to extend my deepest thanks and congratulations to our dedicated team, volunteers, and experts at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) for their extraordinary work. Key Numbers: - More than 3 million deaths in ESC member countries (55 countries including EU-27) attributed to CVD and representing 37.4% of all deaths — that's over 8,500 lives lost every single day. - Over 1.6 million women and 1.5 million men die from CVD each year in ESC member countries. - The economic burden is staggering: #CVDcosts the EU-27 €282 billion annually, with €155 billion dedicated to #health and long-term care alone. - Lifestyle factors, like #smoking increases the risk of death from CVD by up to three times. In 2020, 25.4% of persons aged ≥15 years in ESC member countries were current users of tobacco products. 📣 These figures are not just statistics — they are a call to action. We must act now, and we must act together. The disparities in #healthcare access across Europe demand immediate attention at both the EU and national levels. 🌍 #Policymakers, #clinicians, and #healthcare leaders, it's time to implement an EU Cardiovascular Health Plan to: - Close the gap in cardiovascular care between high-income and middle-income countries. - Invest in prevention, early detection, and equitable access to treatment. - Push for robust, evidence-based health policies that can save millions of lives. The time for coordinated action is now.
