“The data is saying what we have felt on our skin for the past few summers,” says CMCC researcher Giulia Bonino, as another record breaking summer in the Mediterranean unwinds. The latest #ClimateForesight piece dives into the science behind this alarming trend. With expert insights from CMCC researchers, we explore the rising frequency of marine heatwaves, cyclones, and devastating floods, asking the question: is this the new normal? And, more importantly, how can we prepare? Read now: https://ow.ly/Vh7r50TEoiA

The Foundation Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC) is a research centre on climate science and policy
Chi siamo
The Foundation Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC) is a research centre on climate science and policy. The CMCC: - Integrates all studies on climate change and adaptation/mitigation policies - Promotes collaboration and synergy with international organisations, policy makers, and industry - Provides technical-scientific support to the institutions involved in the negotiation and international cooperation activities. CMCC produces thorough studies regarding climate variability, causes, and consequences, through the development of high-resolution simulations based on global models of Earth systems and regional models, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean area. CMCC's research assures the maintenance of highly reliable products and instruments, which are made available to the scientific community and to further studies on climate science and climate change impacts. CMCC maintains, checks, and develops numeric model simulations, which are used to study the effects of climate change on the following areas: economy, agriculture, coastal areas, marine and land environment, hydrogeological cycle, carbon cycle and human health.

Researchers, students, and young professionals in the fields of #ClimateFinance and #ClimateLaw gathered yesterday at the Centro Residenziale Universitario Bertinoro for the official launch of the #FERS course in "Law, Finance and Litigation: addressing climate change risks in Europe". Two weeks of intense work around the legal instruments and financial mechanisms aimed at regulating climate change, its risks and future consequences in Europe. Read more ⤵ ⤵ ⤵
#FERS “Law, Finance and Litigation: addressing climate change risks in Europe” course has finally begun! Today, participants have been greeted by the course coordinators Giulia Galluccio and #EnricoBuono, who provided them with an overview of both FERS main goals and the topics they will address in the next two weeks. The class then started delving straight away into the realm of #InternationalLaw with Professor Buono, investigating how #climatechange deals with traditional legal categories, framework and mechanisms, to then carry out group work activities on #climatechangelitigation and deliberative instruments which can influence #climatepolicy, such as that of #citizensassemblies. Break a leg for these two intense yet extremely enriching weeks to everyone! 💪 -- 📣 If you missed the opportunity to be part of this FERS course, check out the call for the upcoming one on Data Driven Modeling and Predictions of the Earth System, and apply by clicking on the link in the first comment. Applications close on the October 17, 2024 ⏰ CMCC Foundation - Centro Euro Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici

Studying the wave climate of a region is crucial for various socio-economic activities such as shipping, coastal infrastructure planning, and environmental conservation efforts. A new study led by CMCC analyzes the past wave climate of the Black Sea from 1988. The study investigates multiple climate-related topics and, for the first time, identifies in the region the modes of climate variability for waves. Additionally, it assesses the interaction between waves and ocean currents in the area at climatological scale, in a harmonized approach that improves the reliability and comparability of the findings. Decarbonising the shipping industry has been a growing policy goal and it’s an important piece of mitigation efforts, particularly as international trade of goods and services is expected to continue to grow. A new study, involving an international team of researchers including CMCC’s Johannes Emmerling and Laurent Drouet, investigates how the global shipping industry could reduce its carbon emissions in line with climate goals. The research, published in "Nature Climate Change", uses advanced modeling to project different scenarios for shipping emissions through 2100. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eq8bpGfa
